Good morning,
Motherboard: x58a-ud3r
Memory : 3 x Mushkin 998805 - 6GB Total (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 6-8-6-24 Redline (Triple Kit)
Video card - Sapphaire Radeon HD6870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-e16
Power supplay - Corsair 750 w
2 x 300 GB 10000 RPM VelociRaptor in Raid 0 under the Marvell controller.

My setup are 2 x 300 GB 10000 RPM VelociRaptor in Raid 0 under the Marvell controller.

After all weekend of testing I'm coming to conclusion it is not controller since Intel was having same problem with transferring large files to usb external HD.
At 69-71% was hang for a minute freezing my system(only mouse was accessible)
I did fresh install and load all needed motherboard supporting files and winrar and graphics card only.
The only good thing about Intel is a slightly faster show by HD Tune(not much) you don't even notice the difference.
In terms of unraring Marvell was much faster and I don't know why.138 rar files 50mb takes on Intel 6 min 40 sec(picture)
and same 138 files on Marvell only 4 min to internal HD.
But freezing it is same on both on USB for about a minute at around 70% or 15 sec before transfer ends.
The strange think first 70% of transferring file is quick and the rest freezes for a over a minute. The final transfer is ok no damage.
Maybe my Motherboard is defective?

I thinking to get new x58-UD3R and compare.Maybe someone replay to the post and tell me there experience with transferring Large files to usb on 64 bit xp(no hangs or having them) and the time how long will take to transfer 4gig chunk or larger. Did anyone try to load windows xp to Marvell controller ?
I was having a lot of trouble from the beginning.
I have to reload manually Marvell controller  Raid driver in to windows directory after first reboot after blue dead screen.
After that I was able to finish loading the windows. No problem with Intel Raid.
Maybe that's one of defects of my motherboard. If someone shere with me there experience with seating up win xp on Marvell as well.
If I'm only one having this problem with loading windows to Marvell then maybe the USB is defective as well.
Any help appreciate.
Thanks
Adam

Hi again,

Have you tried the USB extrenal drive on another PC to see if it could be the drive that's causing the problem. If it works fine on another system then I would expect it to be the motherboard faulty and time to RMA it.

Thanks for replay.
It is not only one external HD having a freezing problem my other 2 external HD's same thing.
I'm running out of ideas.
I think RMA will be my last option since you have to send the board first and wait then at the end you my get refurbish one.

I don't know what part of the world you are in, perhaps you could add it to your profile at the top of the page. I might be able to give more advice regarding RMA if I had this information.

Well I don't know how California service centre works but normally you would expect to get your own board returned unless it was beyond repair of course. You woulkd probably have to return your board to your retailer and they would ship it to Gigabyte. Of course this will take time to turn around and get it back to you in Canada.
