Gigabyte P55A-UD4 & i5 760 HELP!
« on: February 27, 2011, 09:34:13 pm »
Hey. I'm new to overclocking but friend whom I'm doing it with isn't new but we're still having issues.

We've been trying for days now and we can't get the overclock stable.

I had a MSI board and got the overclock to 4GHz in 10 mins but i wanted to go SLI and changed the board.

These are my specs:

i5 760 @ 2.8ghz
6GB DDR3 Ram
950W Corsair PSU
2x Nvidia GTX 470 1GB
Gigabyte P55A-UD4 Rev: 2.0

These are the settings i've tried. There's a link here so you can see the bios and the settings but in case you know it here are the settings.

http://www.overclocking-pc.fr/forums...ad.php?t=18927

Advanced Frequency Settings:

CPU Clock Ratio: 20x
CPU Frequency: 4.00GHz
QPI Clock Ratio: x32
BCLK Frequency: 200
System Memory Multiplier: 8.0
PCI Express Frequency: 100

Advanced CPU Core Features:

Intel Turbo Boost Tech: Disabled
CPU Cores Enabled: All
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E): Disabled
C3/C6 State Support: Disabled
CPU Thermal Monitor: Disabled
CPU EIST Function: Disabled
Bi-Directional PROCHOT: Auto

Voltage:

Load Line Calibration: Enabled
CPU Vcore: 1.33750V
QPI/VTT VOLTAGE: 1.270V
PCH CORE: 1.050V
CPU PLL: 1.860V

I've also used these settings.

CPU Clock Ratio: 20x
BLCK Freq: 200
QPI: 36x
PCI Express Freq: 101

Extreme Memory Profile: Disabled
System Memory Multiplier: 8.0

CPU Vcore: 1.34V
QPI/VTT Voltage: 1.34V
PCH Core: 1.12
CPU PLL: 1.800

Any help at all would be awesome. I know that this can be done to 4.0GHz as i've read that people have done it, but i just can't get it right.

It ran fine for 2 hours on Prime95 on Small FTTs, failed on Blends, and on Intel Burn Test it gets to test 2 and states an unstable overclock.

Thanks a lot!

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Have you run Memtest on your memory yet to confirm that is solid ?

Is there any reason that you are using 6 GB (3x2GB) memory as that is really meant for X58 boards ?
This won't work in this motherboard as you need 2 or 4 modules for Dual Channel Mode. You must insert them in  DDR3_1 and DDR3_3

What's the link for memtest? i found something but i'm unsure if it's that.

I'm running it in dual channel at 1600. I wasn't aware of that and i was advised to get 6gb so i got them in 2's.

What would they effectively be running at then?

Thanks for the reply.

Memtest86+       http://www.memtest.org/

You were given bad advice there are even worse was to buy them seperately as they really need to be in matched pairs. By matched I mean exactly the same electrical characteristics not just the same modules. You might not be able to run them together stably.

they are from the same packet. They are exactly the same model... Anyway, it was running fine on the MSI, so i think the memory is stable.

I can easily take 2gb out. It's no big deal really, I'll get back soon about the mem test. :)

I saw it's an ISO and i have no CD's/DVD's, plus as i was fine for ages on my MSI, I'm figuring that the memory is fine. CPU Z is saying my RAM is in dual channel at 1600MHz but i will take 2 GB out if you suggest it. Will that improve stability when overclocking on this board? Could that be the problem?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Any thoughts on the motherboard overclocking voltages and settings?

I would certainly try it with only 2x2GB sticks.

Yes, there was nothing in the settings that stood out as accutely wrong. As you know sometimes it just takes some playing around to get them right and sometimes they just won't whatever you do.

So i done as you said.
Done 10 Intel Burn Tests on Max No problems.
30 mins of Prime95; No problems
and 10 mins of Blends on Prime95; No problems.

I'll do a prime overnight, but it looks fine.

Thanks a lot for your time. Your awesome. I have applauded you :)
