Just an update.  I uninstalled all four devices, then did a 'scan for a hardware changes' and this time all four are listed as.....

'Audio Device On High Definition Bus'

Still got the yellow exclamation marks.

What graphics card do you have as if it is a HD card it will also output HD sound.

Its a GT 220, but doesent have an HDMI output.  Tbh if I was going for a workaround solution, I'd probably just stick a spare soundcard in there.  But the mobo is brand new and the sound works, its just the four annoying 'Audio Device On High Definition Bus' lines in the device manager bugging me, and not being sure if that might also cause a problem is anything later.

I would suggest removing the offending entries and then click on refind and instead of letting windows load the drivers do it manually and see if you can use your audio drivers. Have you made sure that you installed all the chipset drivers that are available from the Gigabyte website ?

Just done another clean windows install (win xp + sp2).  Installed the AMD southbridge driver (only one I can see listed that appears to have anything to do with the board chipset) off the cd, then the realtek audio driver.  The driver installs ok, but during installation, it nudges windows into prompting for a a driver for the offending 'Audio Device On High Definition Bus'.  I have tried pointing it manually to everywhere possible on the install cd, but not getting anywhere.  This is just utter garbage  >:(

HALLAFRAKINLLUYA! - sorted it  :).  You were on the right track with the graphics card Mantis. Installed the nvidia graphics driver and it gave me an option to install a HD audio driver, which sorted it after a reboot.  First time I installed that driver it didnt give me the option for some reason  ???.

Anyway thanks for your input.
