Lan port after ram install

Lan port after ram install
« on: March 10, 2011, 09:59:55 pm »
hey,
I just installed 2gb of extra ram into my motherboard of exactly the same spec as my previous ram ( corsair xms2 ddr2 800mhz ) giving my vista 32 bit machine 4gb of ram.

sadly when I booted my computer it did not allow me to connect to the internet, and said there was no network although it was plugged into the router through the lan port at the back as normal.

I have checked through device manager and cant find the port and when I reinstall drivers it says the port and connection cannot be found

these are my specs

Mainboard :   Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H
Chipset :   Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)
Processor :   AMD Phenom @ 2800 MHz
Physical Memory :   4096 MB (4 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
Video Card :   Radeon X1650 Series
Hard Disk :   ST3160815AS (160 GB)
Hard Disk :   WD (1000 GB)
DVD-Rom Drive :   ATAPI DVD A  DH16A1P ATA Device
Monitor Type :   MW19E-AAA - 19 inches
Operating System :   Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium Home Edition 6.00.6002 Service Pack 2
DirectX :   Version 10.00
Windows Performance Index :   4.6

although I am on 32 bit it still shows 4gb of ram dont know if thats significant. if I revert back to 2gb of ram the port still dosnt allow access to the internet

thanks for reading, any ideas would be appreciated :)

The modules in kits made by Corsair use carefully inspected and matched RAMs. Mixing kits are not guaranteed to work together by memory manufacturers. Sometimes they work together and sometimes they don't. You may need to add some extra voltage. If you want to use 4GB, I would recommend buying a 2x2GB matched kit.

You may need to clear the CMOS to get the LAN Port working again. Sometimes the cable gets pulled on and has a short circuit and needs replaced.

Hi there

one thing to consider is that one of the ram modules may be faulty or as Tiger says not working properly
this often causes bad data to be written to the hard drives, and can affect windows stability.  In some cases in the past I have had to reinstall windows after having some bad ram in the machine just to get it stable again.

good luck
