GA-890GPA-UD3H does not post on first cold start
« on: March 09, 2011, 05:41:43 pm »
Hi,

I have an odd problem with a new build.
When I start up, the fans come on, drive lights flash and seems normal - but then nothing except the hdd light flashes every 3 or 4 seconds.
No beep, no video, no nothing else.
I then hold the power button for 4+ seconds until it shuts down and then wait for approx 10 seconds.
Push the power button to start and everything starts as it should. Fans spin, lights flash, beeps, posts, video and runs OK.

If I shutdown and restart within a few minutes, it starts first time.
It seems that it has to warm up a little bit before it wants actually wants to work. (Kinda like some people I know)

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Sounds like it could be a power supply problem.

You haven't got a green hard drive have you ?

Thank you Dark Mantis.

Good call. I replaced my 750W psu with a 550W psu and no more problem. I reconnected the 750W and the problem returned.

Background info.
The 750W psu was a troubleshooting replacement for the 550W in this build.
The build originally had an A**S mobo that would not shutdown and restart correctly without powering off the psu.
Some blamed it on the psu being underpowered, so I replaced it - no change.
A**S tech support's response was that they don't support their products under Linux.

After replacing the A**S mobo and reverting to the original psu - everything works as it should.

I now have about $250.00 worth of defective spare parts.

Thanks again!

From what I have seen of these GIGABYTE forums, they look very good and and the community seems to be very helpful. This is what I have been used for many years of using the Novell and then the openSUSE forums.

Everyone keep up the good work!
