AMD chipset TRIM
« on: March 16, 2011, 04:41:50 pm »
Hi, a few days ago I bought a Corsair F60 (SF1200), and of course I had was to have the support trim without problems, but apparently not! ¬ ¬ ..

I am reporting on it, and it seems that only 10.9 ACHI driver provide support trim, and then taken away .... how can this be? ??? ???

Hi there,

I do not have an SSD and wasn't aware of this issue.

In testing, on my GA-890FXA-UD5 motherboard I actually found that the Microsoft AHCI Driver was quicker with DATA Read/Writes speeds on mechanical HDD's than the AMD driver. Also, in a recent build, I installed an SSD on a machine I put together for my son and, once again, I found the Microsoft AHCI driver appeared to be better than the AMD version.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Thanks.

Also I've noticed it, because according to the specifications of the SSD, is:

285 MB / s sequential read - 275 MB / s sequential write

And I use the HDTune to see their performance, and only reaches 230MB / s read ..

That does not matter much, because it is still fast, but I hate to not have the support TRIM....

The F60 incorporates SSD GC (Garbage collector), acts like TRIM, but it degrades over the SSD ...

Garbage Collection on the Crucial SSD drives is very good and the next best thing to TRIM but obviously not quite as good in the long term.

Sure, it's what I mean, but the SSD degrades the TRIM ...

Known if the latest drivers have support ACHI trim? I have installed, but can not find anything proving that the trim is active ..

I don't know if the AMD chipset supports transfer of TRIM copmmands to the drive or not . Windows 7 does by default but obviously dependent on the controller. You can check that it is enabled but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's functioning.

Yes, using commands, you can see if it is active or not, but do not know if it is working really ..

I have just asked a friend of mine, Lsdmeasap for help on this problem as he has more experience of these drives and apparently there is no way to absolutely confirm that TRIM is actually passed to the drive but you can run a ForceTRIM tool and then watch the hard disk drive LED and see if it is working more.

Hope this helps a bit.

It was pretty much as I suspected that you can enable TRIM but that is only half the story and trying to prove that it is working is another matter.
