Drivers dvd-rom queries
« on: March 29, 2011, 08:08:41 am »
I recently bought a Gigabyte ga-ma770t-ud3 mobo. Yesterday I made a clean Win installed and then tried to use the dvd-rom.

1. The revision is 1.5 but the manual says about 1.3... could this be a problem?
2. Some of the dvd contents say they are not compatible with my OS(Win Ult 7-64)... Why?
3. I see no chipset driver. There are many boost, energy savers etc.  but not chipset driver(?)
4. Is there any ACHI driver? Only says something about... floppy when f6. I have only one hard disk(ssd) which setted in bios as ahci. Do I need some driver about?
5. The Gigabyte's download center I visited after installed all dvd's program, told me that there was nothing new to update...
6.  I installed the Caspesky(included in the dvd) and then I was not able to boot(bsod)!! I had to unistall it and this could be only through System Restore. Then I installed the other antivirus included, Norton, and there was no any problem with that. Whats the problem with Caspesky?
7. And, about bios, until some days ago only one bios was available, F8. Now I see that there's a new one in Gibabyte''s site, F10 (F8 dissapeared from that list, but exists in the other revisions of this mobo...) Should I replace F10 with F8? Does it offer something more?

Sorry foy my long post but I hope my questions wil be answered:)

Hi there,

Don't worry too much when the User's Manual talks about Rev 1.3 it just means the manual hasn't been updated properly when they released the newer revision. Probably still had a lot of the original User's Manuals on the shelf!

The Install Disk that comes with the motherboard is really only useful as a Frisbee in my view and I never use them. I always download the latest drivers from the website and I NEVER install any of the utilities or "Free" software unless I have to for testing purposes. The reason for this is that quite often the drivers on the Disk are old and not the latest version.

Windows 7 has a lot of drivers built in and installing the OS means there are not many drivers really needed to get you going. You can find the chipset drivers here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3621&dl=1#driver but I find that all the installer wants to load is a USB Filter Driver on my system!

If your PC is running OK you shouldn't need to update the BIOS and I have no real explanation as to why the change in BIOS versions. If the version of BIOS on your board is actually F8 then it may have been updated because a problem has been discovered and flashing to F10 would be prudent. DO NOT use the @BIOS utility for flashing BIOS use QFlash instead which is much more reliable. If you are not sure how to do that check here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.0.html
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Yes but if rev1.5 has some new stuff, then the 1.3 manual doesn't count it... thats not good. Why do they insert an old manual in the packet?

Since I told u that I went to the Gigabyte's site but found nothing new or updated, means that the dvd came with mobo is "right".

WHERE is the chipset driver, where is the AHCI driver?

My point right now is not the way to install bios. Its which bios and why.
I wonder why the F8 bios is not available any more in rev1.5 list, but there is in other rev.of the same mobo.
With F8 I was not able to unlock 4th core(although the ACC option exists), maybe I ll be with the F10?
Since F8 is not displayed any more in the list, then this mean that F8 is no good anymore and I should install F10 in any case?

If I can just interject here the number on the manual refers to the manual revision only nothing to do with the board.

If you go onto the website you can look at the manual pertaining to your particular motherboard.

If you are using Win7 64 bit as I seem  to remember then try here as the AMD chipset is definitly included.

As long as you have set up ahci in the bios before installing win 7 then you don't need any drivers from gigabyte as they will be installed as part of the win 7 installation process. They can be installed after but it is a pain. There are gigabyte drivers for ahci but a lot of people actually think that the microsoft ones are better / faster.  Just follow DM's link above and install the chipset drivers. Make sure that you have chosen the correct board revision.

Hey, I aswered to that several times...
Nothing more/new in the official site than dvd-rom.

If u tell me that the ahci drivers came with the win7 installation, then ok. But r they updated?
DriverAgent tells me that they r not. Where can I find updated ahci drivers?

About the chipset drivers, as I said, in the dvd/official site exist many energy savers, boosters etc. in the chipset category, but not any chipset driver. Are u sure I dont need any?..

If the chipset or other drivers on the Gigabyte website are the same as you already have then there are no updates available.

The AHCI Drivers that are installed with Windows 7 will be automatically updated via windows update. However, the current version is still dated as 2006 so I wouldn't hold your breath. I am using these without any problems on my own system.

If you check in Device Manager and you have no exclamation or question marks then your system has ALL the drivers it needs so you can relax and get on with using your PC.

Dont worry about that, I use my pc every day for many hours :)

So u tell me that I dont need any chipset(amd 770-sb710) drivers nor any ahci. DriverAgent lies...
But why wei gives now only 7.4 for my ssd, while old score was 7.6?

Can u help about the bios matter?

Your decline in the WEI rating is probably because you haven't got your SSD set up properly. Are you using it on a Marvell controlled port ? If so TRIM won't be working as those ports don't transfer then TRIM commands to the drive.
