Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I am sure we can help you out here. Starting from the top of the board (CPU end) you have three blue ports and then two white ports.

Put your SSD on the first(top) blue port (SATA2_0)

Put your Western Digital drive on the next port down (blue SATA2_2)

Put the DVD optical drive on the top white port (SATA3_6)

In the BIOS I would suggest setting the Intel ICH10 Southbridge ports to AHCI and then the Marvell ports to IDE

Hope this helps you.

Hello Dark Mantis.
you mean the western digital and the dvd rom make them slaves?

edit: western digital is sata 6gbs ... but working good on sata 2 port too. is that problem?
i have mode ahci now and ssd and wd is in the same drivers installed by intel sata raid. from the gigabyte forum. technology save intel rapid.
is all ok?

There is no such thing any more as Master and Slave with SATA. That was only for the old IDE drives. Disregard anything it says like that in the BIOS as it is just a leftover from then.

The SSD should be the first drive in your list with the Western Digital drive on the same controller, even though it is only SATA2 and the drive is SATA3 it is still the best port for it as the Marvell controller never worked as it was supposed to. The optical DVD drive obviously doesn't matter as much speed wise but sometimes they can be troublesome on a controller set to AHCI so it is better to seperate them and run it as IDE.

Don't worry that you have used the IRST for the AHCI drivers although there was no reason to.

Hi Johnz-

Firstly you still haven't answered my question regarding what operating system you are using ?

Yes your system seems fine and the drive should be ok on that controller.

You should use all the chipset drivers from the website and that will enable the optical drive to work fine too.

No drivers needed for the Marvell controller unless you are using RAID on it, and especially are not needed if you are only using a CD/DVD player there.

Thanks. No you don't need to install anything just to use the Marvell controlled ports. The drivers you should load are here:

Don't worry that you have used the IRST for the AHCI drivers although there was no reason to.

I use the RST driver because without them internal drives are listed as removable cluttering up the safely remove hardware wizard. I also find the RST drivers to be more compatible with optical drives connected to the Intel controller. Nero CD DVD speed does not work correctly using the MSAHCI driver. My SSD also performs better using the RST drivers. IOPS are greatly improved. 4K read/write also improves to some degree. Do to the above I see no reason not to use the Intel RST driver.

Yes that's fair comment Bill. I certainly wouldn't argue about it as I hold a similar belief myself. ;)
