Gigabyte 460 OC and GA-870A-UD3 in CoolerMaster Sileo 500 Case
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:05:55 am »
Please can anyone help. I'm putting a system together based on a Coolermaster Sileo 500 case with Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 motherboard and a Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1Gb card.

Other parts are AMD X6 1055T (95w) cpu, Antec TruePower New 650W psu, Coolermaster Hyper 212Plus cooler, 2 x Samsung F3 1TB HDD

All parts are unopened and I can RMA if required but...

1. Will the vga card fit in the Sileo case - no sizes on Gigabyte website and the power connectors for the card are on the rear

2.  Is the motherboard a good basis for this sytem - seem to be some grumbles about northbridge temps and especially mosfet temps as mosfet don't have a cooler/heat sink.

3.  Is the vga card as quite as some claim - I can't find an actual review for the 1GB OC version - although plenty for the SOC !

Thanks

Hi

Here are the dimensions for the GPU:

GV-N460OC-1GI: H=43, L=238 , W=130 mm  I am always trying to get them to put these sizes on the website so people can measure the space required.

As far as I am aware (I am the Intel Moderator) the motherboard is quite good although your question regarding the Northbridge heatsink is a valid concern. A lot of owners have put a dedicated fan on the area to help keep the chip cool.

I can't comment on the particular GPU as to it's noise levels but I do believe that it is quiet compared to the reference design.

I would say the case is not deep enough to handle the video card.  They are fairly long.  I have the same card, actually two on the same motherboard and the cards cover up the SATA 6GBs connectors pretty well. I fixed the problem with a right angle connector.  I have the Coolermaster HAF922 case which is almost 4 inches deeper than the Sileo 500 case. I would recommend this case as even though it doesn't have the sound proofing that the Sileo product does, it's pretty darn quiet with its fans running under PWM control. :o

Good advice Keith. Some of these smaller cases are a bit tight for some of the modern graphics cards. You also have to take into consideration getting rid of the excess heat produced in a small enclosure too.

Here are your case specs: click on support for a diagram, which states that you have 271.7 mm to work with.

This silentpc review put a 4870 in it:
