GA-ma78gm-s2h and failed bios grrrr
« on: May 26, 2011, 08:53:29 am »
I upgraded my GA-MA78GM-S2H to F11 latest bios as I read it supported an amd x4 840 cpu.

I  had an dual core 6000 amd. The upgrade to f11 went fine. all seemed to work fine. rebooted about 5-6 times without any issues. F11 appeared in the bios screen etc etc. Then replaced the cpu with an amd x4 840. The bios screen now looks all messed up writing and the pc wont boot. I tried replacing the cpu with the original - the same the bios screen is messed up. I have removed all devices about from cpu, memory etc and using the onboard hdmi output, nothing fixes the problem. I have tried clearing the cmos, nothing works.

I did everything correctly, but my motherboards is now broke.  Any advice ??? both cpus work fine in another machine. Is there anyway of fixing this issue ???

regards

Tony :'(

Hi there,

I assume from the BIOS versin that you are running that your motherboard is either a Rev 1.0 or Rev 1.1. If this is the case then the latest BIOS is actually F12B and it might be worthwhile reflashing the BIOS with this version using the QFlash utility. When you reflash the BIOS it is a good idea to disable the "Keep DMI Data" option. More info on using QFlash can be found here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.0.html

You could also try completely clearing CMOS. Check her for details on how to do this properly: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2286.0.html
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

If you still can't get anywhere try starting again by using the Backup BIOS to flash the Main BIOS and then you can run the update again.

You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.

You don't say how you updated the BIOS but don't use @BIOS make sure that you use QFlash.
