P67A-UD7-B3 memory speed issue/setting to 1866 MHz
« on: April 14, 2011, 04:13:23 pm »
Hello,

Ive got a ''P67A-UD7-B3'' and ''CORSAIR 8GB KIT DDR3 1866MHz CL9 Vengeance XMP''
Currently the RAM is running at 1333 MHz and i cant seem to be able to figure out how to set it to 1866 MHz...
I have tried switching the XMP on but it kept crashing between post and boot. (switching XMP on seemed to change frequency to 1866 MHz)

Does anyone know what i am forgetting.. or why the XMP is not working?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte forum.

Maybe your memory isn't working properly at the rated speed. I take it that it is working ok at 1333 ?

The best thing would be to try downloading and running Memtest86+ as follows:

Memtest86+        http://www.memtest.org/

Insert one stick of memory in slot 1 and run Memtest on it for at least 10 loops and if there are no errors then swap it over with the next one and continue untill you have checked all  modules.

If you have any errors the module is faulty.

If you have any faulty modules you will have to return the whole kit as they are matched.

Post back when you have done that with the results.

To manually set 1866MHz, set your ram voltage to spec, then on the CPU setting page (Or memory) set the memory multiplier to enabled and then choose 18.66 as the multiplier

Manually setting voltage + multiplier does not help (restart at post), even tried setting timings from 9-9-9-24 to 9-10-9-27 as per specs issue same..

Memtest with both rams in has passed and i have been using them for two weeks gaming with no problems on 1333 MHz.
when i'll find time i'll try them each separate..

oh and due to my huge CPU heatsink have to use them in slot 2 and 4 but i doubt that should be an issue.

Ok some small progress ..setting multiplier to 16.00 seems to start up ..so currently at 1600 MHz just 266 to go :)

Well still have to test it a bit for stability..

It still sounds to me like the memory isn't quite up to scratch and works at stock speeds but won't overclock happily.

You may also need to increase Vtt, have you adjusted that at all yet?   If not, set your ram voltage to spec, then set the 18.66 multi, and then try Vtt 1.08-1.16 and see if that helps.

And yes, some boards work better with memory in slots 1+3 or 2+4 depending on the board and memory, so feel free to try it either way.
