Installing Windows 7 on my new board

Installing Windows 7 on my new board
« on: May 27, 2011, 11:34:40 am »
Hi, first time poster.

I've just built a new machine based on the Gigabyte H55M-UD2H board

I'm having problems installing Windows 7 (Which I've never done before), I usually run XP

But setup is failing at the first stage, saying there is a missing or required CD/DVD driver missing.

I've inserted the Gigabyte Driver disc that came with the board, but nothing seems to be working.

Can anyone help shed any light on this problem?

Thanks

Hi there,

Not sure of your system specs as you haven't given them but.....
Are you trying to install in Native IDE mode, AHCI, or RAID?

Try removing some RAM (leave only 2 gig) and see if that helps.
If your HDD is a "green" model this can sometimes cause install errors. Try using a different HDD
If you have downloaded Windows 7 and copied it to a DVD, try re-burning it at the slowest speed.
Another option is to create a bootable USB pendrive and install the OS from that. This is what I do these days.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Unplug all un-needed components for the install and see if that helps. Are you installing from USB or using a DVD?

I can't install Windows 7 on my desktop without unplugging my external hard drive, somehow it messes up with my RAID array...

Thanks for the help.

But I took the advice of absic and burned using a lower speed and it installed just fine.

Thanks to the guys who took the time to answer.
