Where are the AM3+ bios updates

Where are the AM3+ bios updates
« on: April 25, 2011, 07:56:18 pm »
Where are the AM3+ bios updates that ASUS, MSI, ASROCK, and BIOSTAR either already have posted on there sites or have announced they will be posting an update? If they don't they will be dumping a lot of loyal customers like me. I'm looking at the chipsets of rev. 3.1 and the new boards have less capable chipsets than I and most of you. 700 series chipsets come on! And please don't feed me the line about the pin or power requirements.

My understanding is that Gigabyte will not be supporting AM3+ processors on the existing AM3 boards.

The new revision 3.1 boards that have the AM3+ Socket will support the new processors. This is not due to pin or power requirements but the fact that AMD themselves (at the present time) are stating that they do not intend to support the use of the new processors on older sockets.

The actual specs of the 3.1 Revision boards are identical in all respects to existing revisions but have larger BIOS chips (2 x 16MB v 2 x 8 MB) to allow for Gigabyte's EFI BIOS. The only way for any manufacturer to get an improvement over existing boards will be to wait for the next AMD 9 series (if that's what they will be called) Chipsets to come along.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Thank you for an answer an engineer like me can understand. If customer service would have told me this in the first place it would have saved me a lot of time. But it does not change the fact that as a gigabyte owner we don't have that option regardless of any improvement or not. I've had this board almost 2 months and I am going to stop the bleeding and dump it.
A 2 month old board with a 3 year warranty and it's worthless to me.
Thanks Again

(...) users of the Rev 3.0 motherboards will be able to use BIOS for the rev 3.1 boards to allow them to run the new AM3+ processors, when they come along but with some limitation, mainly with temperature detection.

Correct. Moreover this limitation applies to all other MB vendors who don't use fully approved AM3+ sockets. Currently only Rev. 3.1 Gigabyte MBs have them - see http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,4913.0.html.
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)
