I've had this board awhile and luv it. Because of an W7 SP1 corruption, I've had to re-install the OS. So I decided to upgrade the ram from Kingston 1333MHz to 2000MHz. I also re-did my SSD array doing a RAID 0 setup with 5 drives, it was three.

1) After array was set up and OS installed, I moved the CD Rom to the gigabyte SATA ports and added in a storage drive to the 6th SATA port. My old files from other build.
The bios are configured for RAID and AHCI. The use of the gigabyte ports stops AHCI mode, why? IDE.  Bios POST text, states no AHCI.
I have had problems with this install, when using the repair disk the lone drive is looked at as the OS drive???????
I am using F9 bios, Intel 9.1 and 10.5., all current gigabyte DL's.
I have removed the extra drive, and moved the CD Rom from the Gigabyte ports. All seems much better. What did I just run into here?

2) the 2000MHz ram is not working well, I did have it at stock settings, but I have since had to remove all sticks but 1 and I'm running it at 1066MHz to get a consistant boot. Sticks require 1.65 volts, bios at 1.66volts. Uncore x2 the ram MHz. The issue seems to be that using multiple sticks stops POST.
I just ran memtest on 1 stick at 1066MHz. 15 passes no errors. I intend to test them all separately. Any tips on 2000MHz ram for my board. timings, ranks, or MHZ.

This is annoying because before SP1 borked me I had a stable OC'ed system. 3.9MHz cpu with 1333 ram at 1472, ran great.
Any info or links appreciated.

Yes Micro$oft has the knack of screwing things up don't they? I have a had a few little niggles since SP1 came out too. nothing major but annoyances.

Starting with your memory problems. I take it you meant to saythat the Uncore was 2x your memory multiplier not Mhz. If so that is probably fine athough you could tweak it a bit up to a max of 2x +2.

The voltage is ok for three modules but if you have filled the slots then you will have to increase the memory voltage to 1.7v

Don't put the CDRom on the same controller as your RAID or if possible even any AHCI mode ports. Ideally it should be run as IDE mode.

You say that you have "old files from another build" if you are referring to system files etc then you are lucky it is working at all. You really need to do a clean install when you upgrade.

OK,

The ram is spec'ed for 1.65v. I read somewhere that the i7, or 920, or X58 do not want it higher than 1.6v, and internal thing???????????????????
I am not OC'ing the ram.
Memtested each stick in same slot, at 1066MHz, 1.66v. 15 passes each.
Tested the same stick, in all 3 ram slots, separately, same settings. 15 passes each slot.
Tested 3 sticks in, at same settings. 8 passes

No errors, 0 errors, none.

So rams fine.

I have 6 Intel SATA 2 headers and and 2 Gigabyte SATA 2 headers. The RAID array boot drive takes 5 of the 6 Intel headers. The CD-rom in the 6th works best. Anything plugged into a Gigabyte SATA header, disables ACHI mode at the bios level, even after OS, ACHI install.
WHY?
How do I use the Gigabyte SATA headers with the Intel headers.
Excuse if names wrong but they should illustrate what I'm asking, tho.

I want to get a stable bclk betwee 199 and 211. Thoughts?

Perhaps you can list your entire setup so I have a better idea of what is installed at the moment and can make some sense out of it . ;)

Sorry, but this post and sig  pretty much covers it, what more do you want to know?

What I was trying to accomplish is,

bclk of 200
2000MHz ram at x10 for 2000MHz.
i7 920 do at x20 for 4.0GHz.
uncore at x20 for 4000MHz.
qpi at x44 for an 8.0 GHZ.

Both sides of cpu and cpu would have a balance??
The board ran awhile with a bclk of 186 with no voltage mods, for 200 well thats different. And probably that qpi will be unstable no matter what???? Except for the qpi, the rest should be able to be done, no? Just want more knowledge of voltage change consequences, I guess. Which ones are important besides cpe volts.????

Ok, using above thread for info. Its nicely written and informative.

Have a stable bclk at 201. All components at stock or less. Passes Intelburntest at 78C.
Will post the results of next steps.

Still hoping for an explanation as to why using the Gigabyte SATA headers forces IDE mode onto an ACHI enabled system? One of the main reasons I came to the Gigabyte forum initially.................................
