GA-965P-S3 Wake On Lan
« on: April 23, 2011, 07:49:33 am »
If anyone can give me some hints that would be most appreciated...
I have a the GA-965P-S3 which appears to support WOL. It has an option in the BIOS, PME Event Wake Up which is set Enabled. I cant see anything else in the bios which appears to be relevant.
Ive used a test utility to confirm that the machine received the magic packet whilst the machine was already on. However, the same command did not work once the machine was off.
There are no lights on the Network plug at the back of the computer once it is off, there is no light on the router for that connection and there doesnt appear to be any lights on the mobo at all. I seem to recall a previous computer used to keep a light on on the mobo whilst it was off.... is this potentially the problem? I cant see anywhere in the bios that seems to have a setting like this...
Thanks!

Are you using the latest BIOS?  If not update, it could be a BIOS bug.

Did you test trying to wake it while it's in S3 sleep too?

At your suggestion I just tried waking from Sleep - and it Worked! :)

But still not sure where to go from here...

I suggested that because I knew it worked that way, and I just checked in the manual and it says Wake on LAN (PME Wake event) is meant to wake the system from an ACPI Sleep state.

So this only works while in sleep mode, and of course your power supply must be compatible, which you already know yours is now.
