Okay when I think I did it, it no longer held on the splash screen it just went straight to the POST error (the same as I shown before) except this time it says at the bottom: "System continue in 15 sec..." although it isn't counting down so i presume it's frozen

Try it again and then when you have succeeded do a full CMOS clear like so:

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least ten minutes before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Opimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

This is where I'm at now, do I just turn off by holding the power button and then follow your next instructions for clearing the CMOS?

OK so it has recovered form the Backup BIOS to the Main BIOS now. If you do what I said with the clearing the CMOS it hopefully should work.

I'm afraid it did not work, it just displayed a flashing "_"...

The thing is this is a less powerful CPU, when i put in the more powerful CPU it wont move any further than the splash screen
