GA-870A-UD3 NB temps
« on: April 06, 2011, 12:15:49 am »
I have searched this forum and I am still not sure if the temperatures I see with HWMonitor or AMD Overdrive for this MBs North Bridge is correct.
They both read 81c but when I first boot the computer it reads 79c. This MB has been stable with no problems. Not sure if I need to install another heat sink or fan? What are your thoughts on the temps? Or should I buy a digital thermometer :)

Hi there,

you may have a faulty motherboard sensor which is why you are having high temps reported  but no problems and this is the most likely scenario.

You can remove the Northbridge heatsink and try replacing the thermal paste or even try adding a small fan to blow air onto the heatsink to see if that brings the temp down but I wouldn't be unduly concerned if it doesn't.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Just an update I checked the temperature of the NB heat sink with a non contact thermometer and it is 51C.
So I'm just going to ignore what the software monitors report.
Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.

To be honest this is not an unusual occurance with hardware. The sensors ar enot really that accurate and are fairly cheap devices that may or may not give a good readout. It is always best to check with a digital meter if possible.
