GA-P67A-UD7-B3 issue with keyboard working after restart
« on: June 29, 2011, 07:52:26 am »
Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone is having this similar problem and what i should do about it

After I restart my pc from windows either my ps/2 keyboard or any of my USB keyboards that i have conncected (mind you both are not in at the same time as i tested this to make sure) do not respond/work as it is posting when i want to enter BIOS

e.g im in win 7 i click restart pc becuase i want to get into the BIOS for whatever reason, I hit the DEL key to enter BIOS and it bypasses my command and goes straight into windows. This has happened since I bought this motherboard and I was instructed to tryll the latest BIOS (F4) and yet it still does not work. However it does not do it everytime which is strange, I would say it only happens about 1/2 the time when i restart.

I have used my workaround method to get me by so when the PC is restarting and before it starts to POST i have to unplug the keyboard and then back in immediately (let me tell you after 3months it is very frusturating to do this)

Furthermore I notice that the keyboard is fine from a cold Boot it seems to only happend after a restart from windows.

So next I formatted and did a fresh install of Win 7 just to eliminate and possible cause that windows was in some way affecting it (which I was highly doubting was). Still not fixed

Dont know what i should do whether take it back to be RMA or wait for new BIOS fix. But something tells me I dont think a new BIOS will fix this.

Well now you said anyone!..........have you tried an extended Bios reset.........pop the battery as well and leave it out for an hour at least, cycle the power button as well this will drain any residual power in capacitors..........once reset button has been pressed several times, re assemble......power up and go into Bios and hit "Optimized Defaults"    save and reboot..........reset board (Bios) to your liking , save and reboot back into windows

Have you tried Native and/or legacy support under USB support...........There's also a couple of other setting in bios applicable to mouse and keyboard support.........it can't hurt anything and might fix the problem.

Aussie Allan

I tried all that you mentioned and it is still happening. Its just weird and so annoying. I have never heard of this happening before to anyone else.

Im just going to RMA it.

Hi

Is your keyboard a Logitech one ?

If so they do have an issue quite often and you can try the latest drivers etc but there is no guarantee that it will work. You will probably need to get a different keyboard.

I have the same problem with my board as well using a logitech wave cordless keyboard. Many times it bypasses the bios.I am intending to fit a PS2 keyboard expecting to fix this, but you say it still is doing it with a PS2 connected so I won't hold my breath. Its exasperating to say the least.I like Gigabyte boards but to be honest this board has given me more grief from day one then any other.I'm hanging in there and know that I will sort all its quirks eventually.

Well good luck with the swap of keyboards and please let us know how you get on with it. The Logitech keyboards do often have an issue with these motherboards but I am not sure exactly why. I am actually using one of their keyboard/mouse combinations myself at the moment (MK700 and M705) without problems. Normally a change of keyboard will do the trick and the PS2 versions seem to be the least troublesome.

An update to this.Installed the latest drivers and software from Logitech seeing what would happen and lo and behold the computer would always shut down in sleep mode.Set all in set point and windows to totally shutdown but it still went into sleep mode, making entering the bios impossible.Did a system restore to the time before the new Logitech drivers and fitted an$8 Chinese PS2 keyboard.Entering the bios is now 100% success rate.

Great you have a win although it's really frustrating Logitech not got there driver problems worked out as this has been going on a very long time now and appearing with even new product......frustrating because some of there kit is actually pretty good!

So I was correct then. It is not an unusual problem to be fair and I can't say I am surprised by the Logitech keyboard being the cause. At least it is sorted out now though. ;)
