GA-870A-UD3 Over heating

GA-870A-UD3 Over heating
« on: May 15, 2011, 02:07:17 pm »
:-\A couple of months ago i decided to build my last computer as i am just getting old.
Had a AMD dual core that sometimes lagged in game play so needed something better.
I bought a GA-870A-UD3 with a AMD 965 BE (not oc) and a ATI 5770, Kingston memory (4x2gig), WD VelociRaptor 150GB 10K RPM Hard Drive, Window 7-X64, 120mm fan at front and same on rear. Loaded all drivers and booted up for last time.Moments after boot up I opened Itune 6 and noticed that the CPU temp was hovering around 80 degrees at idle.
I call my supplier and they thought i had a faulty CPU so they changed it, but was still getting the same temp, called AMD themselves they changed the CPU too and again still have 80 degrees. With all the waiting done on the CPU's exchanges  the store's 30 days exchange on the mobo is over with.
Now i see here that I'm not alone with this problem cause it's caused by the MB with faulty sensors. My question is is Gigabytes going to do anything bout this, should i call them to see if they're going to change the MB? or am I stuck with this. ???

Hi

I would doubt that it is a motherboard fault as the CPU  temperature sensor is part of the CPU so that would suggest either a faulty CPU or the temperature is being reported wrongly. What program are you using for the temps ?

Try using a different program like RealTemp, Coretemp, Everest etc.

So far I've used the Itune 6, OCCT and Open Hardware Monitor-v0.3.0-beta and they all say the same

Check pilot error!.....What thermal paste are you using and how are you applying it?.....how much are you applying?... might seem a silly questions but even I forgot once to put any in at all and got similar temps..........Vegemite even works better then nothing :o

Aussie Allan,
AMD gives a small black pad to replace the paste, I didn't like the idea but they claim that if you use thermal paste the warranty is void

What a load of  *£@@^ and )*5@!>'.....really burns me when company's push this sort of s***e our way, bet you it's the phase change material Ive seen of past ... if true (I'm very dubious about this one) thermal paste manufactures will be queuing at the supreme Courts with huge smiles on there faces filing Anti-Competition Suits....... now with the rant out of the way, ... anybody out there using this product and is it worth it's weight ?

Aussie Allan,
Just ordered a Cooler Master Hyper N520 CPU Cooler and i will use the paste on this one and if that doesn't do it I will re-order another GA-870A-UD3 if that works better I'll re-send the first mb for a refund. Let you know as thing progress

Would be Reeeeeeeeeeeeealy interested how this one turns out, not just for my own interest but for the wider community.....Apology's for all the fancy key-work but I believe I should have the choice to use Vegemite or any favourite thermal paste .........Otherwise they'll be telling us we'll do our warranty if we don't use only brand XXXXXX-XX-XXX motherboards!

Aussie Allan.......P.S   My hunch is it's heat dissipation related   ;)

I would have to agree that it does look that way. Sometimes these things can be deceptive but it would be my guess.

Allan, went online to check for Vegemite and found something interesting where they did some comparison with other paste and where they found that Toothpaste was the best.

Check it out

Funny how some subject go round and round....... I started another thread on Diamond thermal compounds a few days ago, there's some really interest thing happening around us at the moment, just a matter of digging .
