What the heck is a "Chromebook and is it worth trying?
« on: May 12, 2011, 02:02:49 am »
Hi everyone!

Well, Google has done it again!

They are launching their new Chromebook and I was hoping to get some advice here.

Any thoughts anyone?

Is Microsoft's Windows and Apple's OS on the way out or has Google made a gigantic blunder?

Here is the title of the article:

Google Launches 'Chromebook' PCs, Takes on Microsoft and Apple

And here is the article itself:

Should I throw away my nice PC and get one of these? ??? ??? ???

Decisions, decisions...

Hi soar,

You might like to read this article on the BBC news website which gives some info on Google Chrome OS: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-13362111

My understanding is that Chrome OS is based on Web use rather than on programmes stored on the system, as Google see this as the way forward. Because the Computer is holding lots of information on board it boots quicker and the user interface is the Chrome web browser.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Personally not for me but I am sure it wil have it's fanbois. I prefer to have my programs etc located at a local level. I also feel it gives the provider just too much power and control over what I can do and how I do it.
