GA-880GM-D2H Motherboard not firing up...
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:08:45 pm »
Help needed please:

I've just installed the above motherboard with an AMD chip into my tower. The hard drive starts, all fans start, dvd drive starts but motherboard refuses to join in. It isn't even getting as far as system beeps or waking up the monitor. Any guesses as to what dumb thing I'm overlooking? Ive checked all the usual stuff - power leads in correctly, not earthing out etc, just need some advice on what could be causing the board to seemingly stop short of starting its BIOS.

This is the first time I've used this board, its new and not been run in another system before.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer. If I need to provide any specs of other parts I can as needed.

Ste

Hi

Have you made sure that you have connected the 8 pin 12v ATX connector near the CPU as well as the 24 pin ?

Have you made sure that your CPU is supported by the motherboard's BIOS version ?

Yep, all plugged in. I bought the board and chip as a bundle so they are compatible. I checked compatibility before buying as well.

Well it might be a good idea to list all the parts of your build so we can have a better idea of what we are dealing with.

Had the same problem last week, brand new system wouldn't boot.
Turned out that one 2gb stick of ram was defective.
Try running on one stick.

cheers

Yes, it could well be a faulty memory module like fredds says.

However does it boot alright when not overclocked ?

Your motherboard's BIOS needs to be at least F5 to support this CPU.
