first and second PCIEx16 Z68x-UD7
« on: June 01, 2011, 05:17:02 pm »
Hi there, Is a potential decreasse in performance if my Ati 5970 is installed on second PCIEx16 for better cooling?
Top Slot is too close to Cpu Cooler.

Thanks.

 If the lower slot is x16 or x8.........you shouldn't notice a difference.....(I think).....should still be plenty of bandwidth!

I don't see any cooling advantage moving the card.

Hi

Normally it will make quite a difference to the uppermost card as that is usually the one that gets stiffled of nice fresh air when two cards are placed together.

The OP question was for 1 card in 1st or 2nd slot. Let's not change the subject.

  I Didn't !..... if you really analyse the question, running on air ... moving even a single Video card away from the CPU cooler increases the distance between the two ......increased distance means a decrease in radiant heat transmission (Infrared Waves), increased air volume between our little heat generators,.... allowing our fans to do there thing more efficiently...... it might sound silly but small, incremental, numerous steps taken , combined can have a large impact on a system.

 As far as video card performance goes........I doubt if there would be 1-100th of a single frame rate in it if there was such a thing,....  but 2 degrees.....Maybe!! ;)

 Have fun.......Aussie Allan

@Aussie Allan
I did mean Dark post.
I don't thing radiation heat plays much in case with good active(fans) airflow. If you have problem with radiation heat you have problem with your case airflow.

Thx all for answers,

        my tests with first and third slots (x16 both), give me same performance with benkmarks and, in the lower slot i have 6º less than top.

       My 5970 runs good and a little fresh now.

Sometimes these things just do the opposite to what you expect but it's great when you were the one in the right! ;)
