GV-N580UD-15I (GTX580) - fan squealing noise from (62%-74%)

Just wondering if there is anything i can do... I honestly try to stay with the fan max 60% so it's not a big deal at all

but i was making some test yesterday and i noticed that when the fan goes over 62% and till 74% it produces a squeal

so far putting the curve of the fan 40-80C (40%-60%) and 80-100C (61%-85%) i never had my pc reaching 80C so i never heard the noise till i tested (for curiosity) the fan at fix percentage with MSI afterburner i tried 60% 65% 70% 75% 80% 85% to check the difference noise

well any advice?

Hi

I expect that what it is that the fan has reached a point there where it is at it's natural resonance and so makes more noise than normal.

I though something similar i just wanted to be sure ^_^ as i said unless i set it in purpose between 62%-74% i actually never hear it as my fun never need to go any further then 60%

but it's good to know it's something "possible" and nothing to worry about

You can usually tell if it is just the natural resonant frequency by seeing if the noise abates as you go faster again. Normally that sound will tail off or at least change as the fan speeds up from that point.

Sometimes but not always putting in some 1mm dampening washes (pure silicon works well) under the fan mount and cowling (fan cover) can (not always) reduce acoustic noise/vibration........it's really hit and miss as it depends on the dynamic balance of the fan rotor itself, being so small and injection moulded, they do vary a minute amount......some are just better then others.

Yes true enough. I little bit of customising doesn't hurt but do bear in mind that even that will invallidate the warranty. I would suggest removing them before sending it in for repair if there is a problem later.
