GA-890GPA-UD3H + Intel SSD: Best AHCI Driver for Win7x64?

GA-890GPA-UD3H + Intel SSD: Best AHCI Driver for Win7x64?
« on: May 18, 2011, 11:40:21 pm »
I am about to setup GA-890GPA-UD3H with the Intel 510 Series 120GB SATA III for Windows 7 x64. Understood that AHCI Mode is set in BIOS:

Does AMD Chipset Driver 8.71 now support TRIM? Is preferable to keeping Microsoft's AHCI driver?

Many thanks.

Hi there,

My understanding is that the latest AMD drivers do support trim but not having an SSD myself, I haven't got proof of this. I spoke to my son who is running an SSD on his AMD PC and he has told me that he believes the native Microsoft AHCI drivers actually perform better.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

I'm running a SSDs on my windows 7 64 and the Microsoft drivers work.
Install the Intel tool box and make sure the firmware is up to date.

To absic and dolittle — Thanks for the advice. Using the Microsoft AHCI drive appears to be the common wisdom a this time. Since the AMD chipset driver can always be installed later (and after Restore Points and imaging), it would seem the sensible way to start off.

I'll post back with my experience.
