GA-770TA-UD3 & Corsair F3 120 SSD pefrormance - slow
« on: June 20, 2011, 03:22:12 pm »
Using GA-770TA-UD3 & Corsair F3 120 SSD, Win7 Ult 64, 8GB ram, AMD 965BE @3.9Ghz.
Yes, I have the new version F3 SSD that just replaced the recalled drives. Using 6Gbs SATA and AHCI
Using as single Boot, OS and some programs. C300 Specs are 355Mbs read, 75Mbs write.
My F3 drive benchmarks are not close to spec. F3 Specs are 550Mbs read and 510Mbs write. I also know these are their specs and may not be reached in every configuration. I was hoping that they would be much better that the C300, especiallly on the write speeds
Mfr tech said that MB controller may not perform as fast as ones on Intel MBs.
Just wondering if anybody else has tried this MB with this or other SSD on their 6Gbs SATA and had better results.
Pics show results of the new F3 and the C300 is is supposed to replace.
Maybe a newer MB would perform better?

Hi again,

If you are trying to use the white Marvell 9128 chip SATA ports your speeds will not improve much more. There is a plethora of bad reports concerning this chipset on the forum, mainly on the Intel side of things. You may be better switching to one of the AMD SATA 3GB/s (blue) ports on the motherboard as it may be that they will perform better. The only way of knowing for certain would be to try this.

I know that I was bitterly disappointed with the performance of the much hyped Marvell 9128 SATA 6GB/s controller on the GA-790XTA-UD4 and found, when I used it with an SSD it never gave the speeds claimed.  :'(
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
