GA-EG41MFT-US2H - Can't overclock
« on: June 16, 2011, 08:46:04 am »
System is -

Q8300
GA-EG41MFT-US2H Motherboard
GTX550TI Gfx card
1 x WD TB hdd
4gb of Hyperam 1333 memory
620 XFX pro psu (seasonic)
Windows 7 64

I have set manual voltages in bios and intially tried booting up at 3ghz (a breeze for this cpu), the systems failed to post, reset bios to deafult and booted ats stock default speed.

I then started from scratch, cleared cmos and back in bios I went, the stock speed for this cpu is 2.5ghz, I tried 2.6ghz, cpu v-core all the way up to 1.4 (still safe), memory was under clocked and timnings loosened, changed all auto voltages to normal and still no post, then tried locking pcie frq to both 100 and 101 still no joy.

This cpu is capable and the ram is underclocked, is this mobo a dud or due to it's onboard gfx is it a complete overclocking donkey?

Hi

Is this a new motherboard that you have just purchased ?

I would say it sounds like there is something wrong with the board but does everything run stable at stock speeds ?

I would say not, was getting all sorts of issues before when gaming, not had any more BSOD since the new psu, old unit supplied 18a on the 12v+ where the gfx card required 24a so the new psu may have cured that but the systems seems flakey to best describe it, like programs not responding and a lot of egg timers.

The pc was repaired due to a faulty mobo by a local shop.

I have just come of the phone with the pc shop who rebuilt it questioning the ram, more specficially the votage as it didn't state on the ram and I can't find any anywhere to look it up, the tech at the shop said it runs at 1.175v, this seems very strange I thought ddr3 was 1.5-1.65v ??

Oh and yes the motherboard was supplied as new, even though there were no boxes/manuals supplied for it.

I would seriously doubt the "tech's" knowledge if he thinks the memory will run at 1.175v and if that is the same person who built the system for you I would be seriously worried. 1.5-1.65 is usually the range for most DDR3 with a few managing just under that.

Did you get all the extras with the motherboard you had fitted ? I just would be wary about someone selling me that as "new".

I thought the same after speaking with him and I did question him when he suggested them insane volts, I asked if he was talking about the v-core not the dram voltage, he said no.

To top it off the motherboard wasn't sat on enough stand-offs only the left hand side and middle of the mobo were supported  ::)

No extras with the mobo, I said to my friend who's pc it is that I suspect that he has got second hand memory and mobo, he's not impressed.

Sounds a bit like a cowboy store. You can usually tell because "Trigger" will be tied up outside to the rail. ;D
