Gigabyte EG41MFT-US2H boot problem
« on: May 27, 2011, 08:55:37 am »
Hi All,

Just bought a replacement mobo and installed it, unfortunately I cannot get the mobo to boot, I get the following responses:

1) Power comes on
2) LED's light up next to CPU
3) CPU fans, system fans and powers supply fans all running
4) All front panel lights flashing
5) No beeps, small speaker installed
6) No display output
7) Tried without graphics card, and using internal graphics interface - no luck!

I have tried all the usual suggestions as suggested on this forum, cleared CMOS, tried without any attachments, changed memory
checked power supply, displays, reseating chip etc...but no luck.

Can anyone help, I have the following configuration:

1) Intel Q6600 processor
2) Nvidia Quodro NVS 440 Graphics card ( also tried with other graphic cards - so faulty card ruled out)
3) Kingston DDR3 240 pin 2GB memory modules x 4 (total 8GB) - (tried also with 1 x memory)
4) Windows XP 32 bit
5) 4 x Dell monitors (all working fine on other PC)
6) 600W power supply (tested on another PC and working)

Any help would be much appreciated!

PP

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Is this motherboard new or second user ?

Have you checked to see if there is a short to the chassis from the back of the board...maybe an extra post or similar ?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, it's a brand new motherboard, I have checked all possibilities for a short and have also tried to start up with the motherboad
placed on a card and with only power supply, 1 x stick memory and graphics card connected. Unfortunately still not booting.
Again all fans come on, mobo lights come on near CPU, but no POST beeps via connected speaker and no display output.  ???

Just to clarify things there as in your last post you omitted to mention the CPU, heatsink and fan as being installed in the board, are they ?

Yes, CPU, heatsink and fan are all installed, with thermal paste also. CPU fan works on startup.

The next thing is to remove the motherboard form the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and now I know you haven't got any graphics but try and boot. The system should try and then fail emitting a series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.
