Yes, it's very frustrating and has caught me out a couple of times.
They have even changed the slot configuration for Dual Channel mode between motherboard revisions which only confuses things further. Hence my usual admonishment to check the User's Manual.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Trying to work out what, if anything, was going on in the designer's mind when they did things like that is impossible. Maybe a total breakdown! ???

I got confused by the manual for rev 3.1 because there was a picture saying that the memory was supposed to go in 1/2 or 3/4 for dual channel. But a table below the picture showed the correct configurations.

In any case, I've been talking to the Gigabyte support and they haven't managed to respond yet. I'll update as soon as I can get a response.
