 Well ... 20 odd days later and to be honest, although I've been intermittent in working on the integration of the Highpoint rocketraid 640 into my system, I'm honestly about to give up on Marvell........Although this card comes ready to run if you want to boot off it........configuring as a slave PCI card has proven to be a living nightmare.

 to jump to the end.....the only way to flash this card is in pure DOS (Boot disc) with the RocketRaid flash utility on the same partition on the disc, it has stonewalled every other attempt I have made to date......I got almost  to the very end of the re config procedure,......... when I hit the execute button, I get an error of  "PCI card not recognised in the system"..........do I need the driver/s on the partition as well ??

  It's all hearsay now anyway, as now no matter what PCI slot I use, the PC locks up at the first few seconds of post, can't even get into Motherboard BIOS or Dos boot disc, pop the card and every thing's fine, reinsert and it's bricked again.

 With all the trouble I've had in the past with Marvells 9128 chip, Maybe it wasn't such a smart idea trusting the reviews as this card carries not one but two 9128 controller chips..........It could be a RMA as I'm starting to think this card is toast........any help gladly excepted.

I have no ptoblem with my 3 * GighPoint RR622 cards !!

Possible conflict with your motherBoard and RevoDrive card

For testing use your motherboard with minimum port ( requiert only floppy or USB )

or

Place the RR640 in another computer , remove all RAID ports ( only IDE mode  ) or no port

Boot with DOS / USB or Floppy bootable WIN98 with the 4 files downloaded

HighPoint Load.exe detect the card automaticly ( you have also an option for flash new loader version 108 )

 There's a couple of things there that I haven't tried and worth a shot

 Already tried stripping it down to the very basics but did not know about the new 108 loader, thanks,  still has me stumped as to why the card now bricks the machine when I turn it on.

 Will try another machine........Pierre.......All the pins on top of the card, what purpose do they perform, I was wondering if I could short some to return the card to a factory profile .... I'll put in a bit more effort but I smell an RMA, no piece of kit should give this much trouble if it's a goody.

Possible card bricked , why ?

 Have just finished testing the HighPoint RocketRaid 640-PCI card in a Second Bench rig and can finally confirm the card is B***dy Toast..... Locks-up the boot phase on intel raid chip and will not go further, Can't even get near the Delete option for Motherboard BIOS..........RMA started so I can start the fun and games AGAIN!

 Should have looked at this as a possible outcome about 2 weeks ago........not having to RMA an item in over 3 years, just got spoilt I guess.....Hind sight can be very bitter medicine...DOOH, ... DOOH, ... DOOH,....

  Always trying to look on the bright side......there's not much I don't know about this card now including ALL Flashing Procedures and software required and how to generate Pure DOS boot disc with drivers and flash tools on the correct partition........................................................Me eds still spinen...hahahahahahahahah!

 Hope this thread is helping other people out there!............To be continued, same bat time ,same bat chan...........
