Well folks, I wonder if Gigabyte is aware of the poor performance of sata controller on your motherboard:
GA-990FXA-UD7 and some correction will have to respect, follow the links below tests:

Problems Part 1

underperforming in SATA3 (marvell chipset or ..)
despite being written in the standard reading is very weak

Crystall Mark 3.0.1:

we note that the ATTO results were repeated, while the writing has remained within the expected reading skidded again ..

ATTO disk benchmark:

Problems Part 2

where's my SLI .....

I tried two combinations of slots 16x + 16x + 16x and 8x and nothing ...

Possible Causes

1 - driver, I'm using the most current 275.33
2 - Bios, it may be that the bios is blocking the SLI
3 - Since I am using a Lightning and a Twin Frozr then this may be the problem, but I run perfectly on this setup in SLI X58 and P67

I will install a driver package a little older and if it fails it will also test with 2 x 480

You won't be the only one with the SLI problems. In the product info on the Gigabyte site it clearly states 'Support for 2-Way/3-Way/4-Way AMD CrossFireX™ and NVIDIA SLI™ technology'. However, in the manual there is no mention of SLI just 'Support for 2-Way/3-Way/4-Way AMD CrossFireXŠ Š ™ technology'. Someone has dropped the proverbial b***ock. Or maybe SLI support will be added with a later revision or bios. Still, what a let down.

I have to say that I wouldn't read too much into this at the moment. It seems, from what I can make out, that the board used for testing may have been an engineering sample NOT the final product.

Actually this is the end product, even why I buy the card already if I want, in the same test reports that are using the latest bios from Gigabyte's site, for me the big problem is that the performance of SATA III

  MegaX

Could you be so kind as to confirm the model number of the Marvell chip on this platform controlling the SATA III ports.......

 it should be the 88SE9128

 or the ...........88SE9182

Rather important for a bit of research I'm doing at the moment re some long term solutions to some of the Marvell controller chips integrated into some platforms.

Hi Allan,

the specs for this board with regard to SATA are as follows:
Quote
South Bridge:
6 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (SATA3_0~SATA3_5) supporting up to 6 SATA 6Gb/s devices
Support for SATA RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID5, RAID 10 and JBOD
2 x Marvell 88SE9172 chips:
2 x SATA 6Gb/s connectors (GSATA3_6, GSATA3_7) supporting up to 2 SATA 6Gb/s devices
2 x eSATA 6Gb/s connectors (including 1 eSATA/USB Combo connector) on the back panel supporting up to 2 SATA 6Gb/s devices
Support for RAID 0 and RAID 1

I don't know if MegaX actually has access to this board or if he is reading from posts on the web. From what I can make out this thread is referring to an Engineering Sample of the board and not the final product.

Why can't a release date mean just that, ... world wide, ... it was bad enough living in Australia with a product releases being up to 10 to 12 month after people were enjoying the latest toys.........And  MegaX..........I never doubted you for a second.......well maybe one,....But not two!

now I find Brazil getting product before the UK, so has anyone had any hands on experience with this Marvell 9172 chip as in does it perform as advertised or as expected ?

Absic,  thanks for the handy details......the pot thickens with Marvell....9172 now, ....and people are still reporting problems, ...DM is going to have kittens!........he's already maxed out on his Valiuum prescription

Hi MegaX
my humble apologies. Trouble is a lot of your links are in Portuguese or Japanese and something may have got lost in translation.

As Aussie Allan has said we were told, in the UK, that the release date for these boards would be the middle of June and didn't realise they meant just for us on this side of the world.
