73PVM-S2H compatible memory? (NO video, no POST)
« on: April 30, 2011, 03:52:59 pm »
Hi, is anyone successfully booting this mobo with a G.Skill Pi ddr2 stick (F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B)?

It should be compatible, right? Despite this my 73PVM won't POST: no beeps&video whatsoever...

Could it also be a BIOS version too old for the CPU (I read this somewhere)?

TIA

Hi,

you don't say which CPU you are using but you can check for compatibility here: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=2691

N/A in the list means the CPU is not Supported.

E3400, but now it's with an older 430, to rule that out (could that have been an issue anyway?)

The fan spins, kb leds flash, mobo components get a bit warm, all in all normal... except no go

PSU voltages seem fine, 'power good' changes as it should, CPU and mem voltages are there (some 1.4 and 1.9V).

Tried also with an old PCI video card, besides analog IGP output. System responded to a CMOS reset, as now the power off delay is gone. Seems to feel the reset signal too (slight change of speaker noise).

FWIW sellers attested mobo and memory worked before shipping (separate sells though).

I should have said there is a power off delay now, sorry. Unsure if this means the cpu runs (a beep apparently means that).

Hi

I wouldn't take much notice of that because even if they are telling the truth (which I doubt) the testing would have consisted of a power on test and if that worked then it was ok. ::)

It confuses things a bit as you are posting in thw threads. Try doing an extended clear of the CMOS. Please follow these instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

I must have cleared the CMOS because of the delay, thus if the PO didn't do it, it could be because he didn't need to (mobo working).
