GA-E350N-USB3

GA-E350N-USB3
« on: June 30, 2011, 01:12:19 pm »
Hi guys,
Just a quickie. I am thinking about building a Windows Home Server 2011 pc. Strange as it happens, GigaByte have just announced this motherboard the GA-E350N-USB3 as a mini itx form factor motherboard, aimed, the blurb says at home servers. My query is does the motherboard do Raid? It does refer to Raid/AHCI. Do these mean the same? Also, the pcie slot, can I fit a pci card in it? or does it have to be the express type?

Regards,

David

Hi to answer you last question first the PCIE slot will only accept PCIE cards, it is not possible to fit a PCI card into these slots.

It would seem as if RAID is not supported on this platform. I can only assume this is because of the FCH being used for the storage purposes and it is not incorporated.

Thanks DarkMantis

I now seem to have found another mini itx motherboard the GA-D525TUD. This only have 4 sata connectors but does have an IDE connector which would suffice my need for 6 drives. May I ask another question concerning this motherboard? It has 4 sata connectors and although 2 are white and 2 are blue I assume to diferentiate between sata" and Gsata, but are they both capable of raid or just 2 of them? The 4 sata drives I want to use as hot swappables. The IDE I would use for the operating system and the dvd drive.
Thanks in anticipation,

David

The Intel NM10 chipset controls two SATA ports which do not have RAID support.
1) GA-Z97X-Gaming 7, G3258,
2) GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev. 1.1, FX-8350
3) GA-AM1M-S2P, Sempron 3850 Kabini

I normally would agree with Tiger on this but it is stated in the specifications that it does support  RAID on the two SATA ports. It might just be a misprint in the specs but you could always check with GGTS.
