Can i load 965P-DS4 Bios on DS3? - "SMART Command Failed" BIOS BUG!

So, to be brief: Using latest firmware for some SSD's will generate a "SMART Command Failed" message during Boot in AHCI mode.

This is a bug known by Gigabyte that has issued bios updates for numerous of motherboards in their lineup fixing the bug:
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?76177-do-you-own-a-Gigabyte-motherboard-and-have-the-SMART-error-with-FW1.11...look-inside

My question is though; since i own a DS3 but Gigabyte has not issued a bios fixing this issue on my board, could i possibly use DS4's bios file and load it on my board? I do not know what differences there are between the boards!

... Still quite scandalous for Gigabyte, for not issuing the fix for the entire lineup whilst tinkering with the boards anyways !!

I would definitely NOT recommend using the BIOS from another board, even similar, on a different board. The chances of it working are not good. You could try using the SSD in IDE mode as opposed to AHCI. The performance hit is very small and unless you really need the "hotswap" capabilities there is nothing much to lose and IDE is more stable.

If i knew that, i wouldn't install Windows with AHCI enabled.
Is the performance AHCI - IDE really important / higher ?
When i turn on the computer, i have always this message:  SMART Command Failed.
My mobo is Gigabyte GA EX58-UD5, BIOS version F9
Would BIOS update help ?

Hi

To be fair you are going back almost a year with this post and things change. I would advise using AHCI mode now if you have more modern drives/SSDs. THe performance is certainly greater and the stability should be as good.

For your particular issue I would suggest updating the BIOS and if it still happens then try disabling SMART Reporting in the BIOS.

I have 1 SSD OCZ Vertex 2 and 2 HDD's Western Digital 6400 AAKS.
SMART reporting is disabled in BIOS.
I'm talking about HDD S.M.A.R.T. Capability
What about SATA Port0-3 Native Mode ? Should that be enabled when i have AHCI ?
Dark Mantis, please have a look here :
http://kg.gigabyte.com/products/page/mb/ga-ex58-ud5_10/download/bios
I have now F9
What is that mean "Enhanced memory compatibility" ? It's only about DDR3 ram ( RAM  memory ) ? No SSD / HDD / ?

HDD SMART capability and SMART reporting in the BIOS are all one and the same thing. It's just that if you install a discrete SMART reporting tool it can give you details.

The BIOS update that has Enhanced Memory  compatibility relates to the memory modules not the drives.

SATA port 0-3 should be enabled if you are running a modern OS like Windows & or Vista.
