Very unstable core volt 990FXA-UD5
« on: July 16, 2011, 10:01:06 am »
Hello
I just built a new computer and gigabytes 990FXA-UD5 mobo was the best choice for me its sexy and lots of good features, im a long time gigabyte fan aswell.
With this motherboard im using the AMD 1090T BE.

First to get something clearyfied,
disabled cpu boost/turbo and C'n'Q etc.
Also cooling my cpu with CoolIT vantage A.L.C
Using the F4 bios

THE PROBLEM IS
in my bios the vcore reads 1.375 standard
in the pc health option it says something different... its at 1.405 why is that?
Under prime95 stress it drops to 1.320!!
And idle at 1.400 - 1.4010 in CPU-Z

My goal is to take that CPU to 4.0 GHZ but how is that possible when i set the vcore is so unstable?
I spendt countless hours getting stable it to 3.8ghz at 1.425 it passed the 1h check in p95 but the cpu-z voltage core values and cpuid vcore readings are at 1.488 vcore all the time, even bios showed that value, it drops to 1.400 under load.
At 4ghz it becomes even more crazy cause i need to up the vcore to 1.450, the cpu-z then reads somewhere around 1.500-1.510 also bios is showing crazy high numbers, and at load it drops to around 1.410-1.425 and thus giving me a bluescreen.

Since the safe vcore for this AMD proccessor is 1.550 i put it back to stock settigns since i was afraid of killing my new cpu.
Is this supposed to be like this with those crazy vdrops and vboosts?

:-\ If so i dont know if i want this board, please fix this bios gigabyte!

Hi there,

I have just sent you the F5b BETA BIOS via e-mail as this might help a little.

Please also read through this thread: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,5939.0.html as it covers the same problem that you are talking about.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.
