GA-8I915PL-G power failure when dual ram
« on: March 14, 2012, 04:42:17 pm »
Hi, i have GA-8I915PL-G mobo and upgraded my 512 DDR-333 ram with a pair of Trancend 1GB DDR-400 CL3. My problem is when i put both sticks i get a power failure on the mobo (continius light beeps), and i have to take everything off the mobo (including graphics card) to make it power on again. When i use 1 stick it works fine. I used both sticks individualy to check if one is faulty, but they both work alone. Its a dual ram issue and i couldnt find any solution over the internet. Some forums say its a ram voltage problem. Unfortunately i cant find my ram's model in trancend's website (!) and i have multiple indications about its voltage. Everest says its 2,5V  but bios gives me 2,6V. Is there any way i can solve this problem and have 2GB dual channel ram?
Thanks in advance

Hi,

I`m not guru,but..

You have four slots on MB? Channel A and Channel B.You must put two DDR memory modules into the DIMMs with the same color in
order for Dual Channel Technology to work.

You have manual for that MB?If not, look on GA site.
Also update the bios, if you did not.
And finally, tell wich the memory model is (writes on the memory)

Note* Everest isn`t always right, trust BIOS

Hi ljubisa, my mobo has 2 slots, i have upgraded bios to version F2, the other upgrades are about cpu (so gigabyte's site says). My ram sticks are Trancend 1G DDR 400 DIMM CL3 606460-1672 [RE] (i cant find it anywhere) looks like Transcend TS128MLD64V4JL 1GB .

Now look on the GA site, but no motherboard with that name ...????
Sorry there is on the site, but  is not in the list of compatible with this memory on the Transcend website

This is a list of GA MB , compatible with that memory,copy/paste from Transcend:

 8I915G Pro
 8I915G-MF
 8I915P Duo
 8I915P Pro
 8I915P-D Pro
 8I915P-G
 8I915P-MF

Sell those two memory with 2.6V and buy the other two on the 2.5V ... The easiest and least painful ... ;)

I would suggest updating to the latest BIOS F4, as it may help.   They only put very little info in the change logs, there could be 100's of other changes not mentioned, so for best compatibility always use the latest BIOS.

Please update via Qflash or DOS!

As for your memory, please show us a image of CPU-s SPD tab with one module installed, this will show us the exact model and the programmed speeds, timings, and voltages
