z68mx-ud2h-b3 Restarts after shutdown
« on: October 11, 2011, 11:29:28 am »
Hi Folks,

My PC occasionally (but not always) restarts itself a few seconds after shutdown. No fuss, No BSODs seen; no obvious errors noticed in event log.
It usually happens when I'm in a real hurry to shut it down to go out  ;D

Can anyone offer advice ?

It's a simple setup. Just about the only thing changed away from default in the BIOS is ErP support, (which was disabled by default) but I enabled it to allow the system to consume <1W in s5 (shutdown) state. Wonder if this could affect it?

Motherboard z68mx-ud2h-b3, most recent non-beta BIOS F11
Memory 8GB, Crucial (intensive memory checks do not detect errors)
Intel i5, Not overclocked
Windows 7 64-bit ultimate + All latest drivers
Samsung 2GB hard disk installed as AHCI (no SSDs or RAID installed)

Thanks

Steve

Hi

I would advise disabling all the power saving options and sleep options in the BIOS and then try enabling them one at a time until you can find the one that gives the trouble.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I presume that disabling these features in the BIOS won't upset my Windows 7 setup ?
I think I'll try disabling ErP support at first. I guess it's going to take time to locate the what causes the fault, because at worst it is only occasional.

That was why I suggested disabling ALL the power saving options to start with, especially those to do with sleep.
