BIOS Errors on GA-MA790FX-DS5
« on: July 26, 2011, 02:33:16 pm »
Hi,

I am having problems with my BIOS settings.

1, when I enter BIOS screen, i can change all values with the exception of time and date (using page -/+),but worst of all when i F10 it freezes on Y then i have to reboot!!!/
2, When booting up (without me going into BIOS), after the initial screen, I then get a flashing cursor in the top left of the screen, then i press the on / off switch briefly, then it goes into sleep mode, then i press it again, and it continues to boot windows 7, i then get REPAIR or start normally screen. If i repair, i get BSOD with stop 0x0000005 error, of if i let it boot to windows, then it resets it self before windows has loaded!!!
3, I have reset CMOS, replaced battery, and re-flashed BIOS, currently with F3. I have used later versions but atleast i can launch windows (1 in 30 times without issue). When i flash the BIOS i get a checksum =(some numbers and letters, depending on what version i upload), then continue with the flash, and it is sucessful!!!

WHAT CAN I DO NOW!!!

Hi there,

could you just confirm your motherboard, is it the GA-MA790FXT-UD5P Rev 1.0?
If you could also post back with your full system spec's it would help with troubleshooting.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Hi,
I have updated my BIOS using the Qflash utitilty.

I finally booted up into windows, after removing Battery for an hour, and clearing CMOS, then after rebooting, again I can not save any changes i make, or change the time (which is the most important thing, as this is a HTPC).

I can now boot up to windows, but everytime i re-boot, after the initial POST screen, it goes blank with flashing cursor in top left screen. Then i press the off switch onece and the system goes into standby mode, and i press it again and it wakes up and contiues to boot with verifing DMA data and on to boot windows

I then tried to update BIOS to latest using @BIOS (new version) fo F8a, and tried to reboot, but froze after initial POST. I then re-installed F3 via qflash, and it is now booting to windows, even though i have to F12 for boot menu to point it to the right drive...

The next thing is to remove the motherboard form the case and test it on the workbench.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard. Add the keyboard and boot. The system should try and then fail emitting a series of beeps. Please post what sounds it makes.
