GA-A75-UD4H Memory issue

GA-A75-UD4H Memory issue
« on: August 02, 2011, 11:45:55 am »
Ok so bought a GA-A75-UD4H and an A8-3850 over the weekend and all was well or so i though.

Turns out that the memory i have isnt on the list, well i say its not on the compatibility list, it actually is, but only the single sided stuff and not the dual sided.

I have the CMV4GX3M2A1333C9 memory to make up 8Gb, 4Gb is the single sided stuff (this works perfectly fine) 4Gb is the double sided stuff (same code number etc, but system either refuses to boot with just the DS stuff, or graphics are all garbled and system hangs every 10 secs with both the SS and DS in).

Now i know you shouldnt really mix DS and SS together ( i had no idea they were different until i changed from my old Mobo a GA-MA785GT-UD3H in which all 8Gb ran fine (even thought the memory isnt on the supported list for that board)

i have spoken to both scan and ebuyer, and they cannot assure me that if i buy some more of the CMV4GX3M2A1333C9 ram from either of them that it will be single sided stuff.
I am therefore looking to get new memory, but im limited in height as the memory would catch or improch on my Aftermarket CPU cooler.

I have been looking at CMX8GX3M4B1333C9 (this appears in the list albeit the M4A1333c9 not the M4B1333c9) and CMX8GX3M4A1600C9 (again this appears albeit the M2A1600C9 not M4A1600c9) has anyone used these in this Motherboard at all the first memory mentioned.

I am still awaiting to hear back from gigabyte about the above memory compatibility so any help really appreciated.

Hi

I can't say I am surprised that you are having problems with unsupported and mixed memory modules. I think it was inevitable. If you ar limited for height of the sticks I would suggest using some bog standard Corsair or Crucial modules that don't use a heatshield. They will be just the PCB and chips.

Thanks for the reply...

Like i say, I hadn't noticed initially (already had 4gb in old system and just added the extra 4gb without looking, you wouldnt look would you) and they are on the list, its just one of them is Double sided, which isn't but the code is exactly the same, talking to the retailers, its pot luck whether they get single or double sided stuff in so if i was to buy some more it would be pot luck whether i got single sided (which would go with the single sided i already have and works fine) or double sided...

This is the problem i can't take the risk of wasting money one the single sided..

I'm going to see if the Vengence ram will fit under my cooler later.

I have some Vengeance memory and whilst it is good RAM it is fairly high with the heatspreaders on it. To be fair unless you are planning to overclock your memory quite a bit then you can do without the heatsinks as they dont get very warm at all under normal circumstances.

Ah brilliant thats good to know...  I mostly do photo editing on the machine, with the occasional gaming and sometimes a bit of HD video editing.

Most of the time its sat with the internet and windows media center playing... whilst i edit photos.

Thanks for the help..

One thing you might be able to help with..

In the manual it says you can run the DVI and the HDMI at the same time, but for the life og me i cant get this to work...  (misprint?)

I am assuming that you are referring to using the onboard graphics. If so I would doubt that it is possible to use both at the same time but I am not totally sure.

Indeed i am, i thought this myself, however the manual says dual monitor support and the DVI/hdmi and the HDMI/Display port both say they can be on at the same time.. just can't get it to work..

Ill wait to hear back from gigabyte technical then...

Thanks for the other help dude.

For the dual screen with HDMI / Display Port possible problem if you have enabled CrossFire

In this case you can use only one display creen

Look in ATI Catalyst --> Advanced --> and bottom CrossFire

Also connect the 2 * displays befor start computer
