Smart Response install issues

Smart Response install issues
« on: August 01, 2011, 12:46:02 am »
I just got a new SSD and want to use it for the Smart Response Technology on my GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 motherboard.  But when I try to install the Smart Response software off of the Gigabyte install disc that came with the motherboard I keep getting the error:

This is not RAID HDD.
Setup will be abort.

How do I setup Smart Response with my new SSD?

So I enabled RAID in the BIOS, after making tweak in the windows registry to get the system to boot.(I stalled the originally with it configured in IDE mode).  I was then able install the Smart Response software from gigabyte install disc.  But now I'm not sure what I need to do to finish setting up SRT.  When I click on the click on Smart Response under programs->gigabyte it asked if I want to allow the program to make changes to windows, and I click yes but then nothing else happens.

I'm really trying to avoid reinstalling windows with the RAID mode enabled in the BIOS.

So I gave up trying to get it to work... so I reinstalled windows with RAID enabled int he bios.  Deleted the old RAID (cache) device through the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Option ROM.  I installed the systems driver from the gigabyte disc and rebooted.  I then installed the SRT software from the gigabyte disc then rebooted. But for some reason in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Option ROM it keeps saying that the that the Acceleration is disabled and now the system can't boot into windows.  I have reinstalled windows 3 times now to try and get the SRT to work, but with no luck.

What are the step I need to do to get this stuff configured.  Can someone help me?!?

I think the problem you are facing here is that this technology is so new and that very few people have used it yet and even fewer have any experience of it so there is a big gulf of lacking knowledge. You probably know as much or more than most others here at the moment. I haven't even had the chance yet to play with it and learn it's intricacies. :-\

The main issue is that Gigabyte doesn't give an kind of info in the manual about how to set this stuff up, and for something this new you would think they would have a special section for it.

Anyways I found a couple threads on Intel's website that describes the exact issue I'm having.  It looks like a some people are getting it to work by installing the OS without the SSD installed and then after installing all the drivers they would install the SSD and enable SRT.  I'm going to give that a try when I get home.  Hopefully it works as I am at my wits end with this.

Here are the threads I was referring to:

Well I finally fixed my issue.  I had to update my BIOS.  I MB came with BIOS version F1, and from the gigabyte description it looks like they fixed a bunch of the SRT stuff in F5.  I update my BIOS to F6, enabled SSD acceleration (SRT) through the intel RST(Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) program in windows and rebooted and it worked!!! And I didn't even have to reinstall windows for the 8th time  :)
