SmartRecovery
« on: August 06, 2011, 03:03:04 am »
Hi,

Reading the manual of my T1005M I notice it says that the netbook has a hidden partition for SmartRecovery (I was just wondering why the two visible drives don't add up to 320 GB...). Anyway, I intend to purchase a full copy of Windows 7 soon, which would make the recovery with SmartRecovery superfluous I guess because in the case of a catastrophe I could repair Windows. Is it possible to make that partition visible and delete it? It is not urgent, but one day I might run out of space and if I have the Windows 7 disk anyway I wouldn't need SmartRecovery.

Thanks!

Hi

Yes it is possible to remove the partition and all backup data that is there for your security and recovery of the machine if you wish to. Just make sure that you have copies of all the drivers etc before doing so as sometimes they can be hard to track down.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have a CD with all the drivers.
At the moment I still have a lot of space, but I cannot believe how quickly I ran out of space on my first  laptop, when I thought I would never run out of space when I bought it, so it is good to know.

Laptop hard drives are also much bigger now than they used to be.  I think that you can get a 1TB now so it will take a little longer to fill it. ;)

I know... It is 250 GB. I bought it 3 1/2 years ago and back then I was impressed.
Computers are a little bit frustrating because they improve all the time and prices go down...  :-\ For what I paid for it 3 1/2 years ago I would really get a SUPER laptop these days...

Just as a matter of interest, I just purchased a kit of 16GB of memory and though I would compare the price I paid now to what I paid when I purchased 4MB upgrade when I had my first PC. The comparable  price worked out as £500,000+. Now that is one hefty upgrade! :o :o :o
