Gigabyte pci express 3.0 bios support

Gigabyte pci express 3.0 bios support
« on: August 13, 2011, 10:40:29 am »
How does gigabyte get 3.0 support just by a bios flash?

Is this for real, or some marketing trick..
like : compatible with 3.0 gpus but actually run at 2.0 speed?

Also according to asrock website
this might be the case.

pci express 3.0 compatable but running at gen 2 speed.

http://www.asrock.com/microsite/PCIe3/overview.html

if it is possible to get pci express 3.0 support by bios flash.

why not do the same for pci express 1.0 to 2.0 etc..

All this sounds dodgy to me and I am really confused..

Also is it true that it just means  in theory could work with 3.0 gpus but when they actually get release then we would know for sure..
And if it doesn't then tough luck..

 ;) Hi The Joker,

I see that you are well aware of the news which is suspended above the products or technology from Gigabyte.  ::)

I leave it to the Staff of Gigabyte to explain ... if you have not already.

Future Proof Your Platform for Next Generation 22nm Intel CPUs said this link:
http://www.gigabyte.com/press-center/news-page.aspx?nid=1048

Extract:
... announced their entire range of 6 series motherboards are ready to support the next generation Intel 22nm CPUs (LGA1155 Socket)
... To future proof your GIGABYTE 6 series motherboard...

This is the most important message... for the rest ... i keep my opinion... i will check a infos on web.

Well I have just read the ASRock link that you posted and it seems fair enough to me. I don't understand where you are getting the info from that Gigabyte is "pulling a fast one" by trying to do it with a BIOS update only. I know they are bringing out revisions of the motherboards that will support PCIE 3.0 but presumably that is by hardware.

The reason I said it is cos on asrock site it saids

even though pcie 2.0 boards maybe get it to support pce 3.0 it would only run at 2.0 speed..unless u have the pcie 3.0 switch as shown in the link.

Now gigabyte boards currently released only support 2.0 speed, but it was recently announced that there is a bios update to support 3.0 speed.

So I just want to know if it would run at 3.0 speed or actually run at 2.0 speed even though it supports 3.0 cards etc..

Like what was said on asrock site...

I just want some more information.......

I am not sure what information you have, maybe different to mine. I was aware that a board revision was due out to add PCIE 3.0 support and as it is being released as a revision rather than just a BIOS update it will obviously have had a hardware change to the board, quite possibly the switch you are referring to.

From the link you just posted it does sound like as well as nextgen 22nm CPU support PCIE3.0 support would also be enabled by a BIOS update. Now I don't pur[port to know but maybe the hardware has already been put in place just waiting for the BIOS update to activate it.

I would suggest that you ask GGTS for information on this as I don't know any more than I have already posted and just making wild guesses doesn't help anyone. You can contact GGTS here:
