GA-X58A-UD7 (rev. 2.0) how to AHCI

Hi

This is how I did it. Changed from IDE to AHCI with Win7 allready installed.
I had no problems. And later I found out that I even did not have some ATA drivers installed or smthng. because Intels driver detecting utility automatically installed some of them after I used it when I had problem with some other driver :D

''On Microsoft offiacial help site there is  exactly sayd also how to do it and its same way as Dark Mantis said but with a one little tweak to all that process
All that changeing in system registry can be done by Microsoft oficial tool Fix IT.
You just click on the FixIt button in the site and it will download and run a small oficial file that will do that MSahci Valua data change for you.
So all you have to do is let the program do its thing, change Sata Controller Mode to AHCI nad install drivers.
Here is the link to that FixIt thingi: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
I'm running Win7 64bit. Z68X-UD3-B3 mobo.
I let the FixIt do the job, went straight in to the TouchBios (lovely thing) and changed Sata controller to AHCI and made restart.
After restart Win. automatically installed AHCI drivers and rebooted again. And it was done!
Simple as that.''

I'ts pity to hear that...I haven't seen any good motherboard yet with ability too boot SATA 3, but with not Marvell controller :(
Feel that we're all beta testers.

Vapperhiir
Wow, that worked?
Nice...But still, it's better to make perfect clean install i guess, since i have messed with all this marvell installations etc...

eehh

going to reinstall Windows in AHCI mode now!
Wish me luck guys!))
thanks fro help :)

I have use 4 harddrives on Intel SB AHCI mode and BD-ROM in Marvell as you said, so all 3 controllers have been installed in AHCI
Well, everything went perfect, except one thing, i still get this:

Don't know why ))

Now i switch Marvell to IDE and GA's off.
It seem that all harddrives are detected and work good without any trouble.

But, do i need to do something about this Marvell ! ?
On gigabyte's page there are:
Marvell RAID Utility (SATA3) (Please install Marvell Console Driver before install Marvell RAID Utility)
Marvell RAID Preinstall Driver (SATA3) for AHCI Mode
Marvell Console Driver (SATA3)

Which one i need to install?

P.S. This additional detection boot-screen of AHCI is pretty annoying...Don't get why not to use main post for this. But fast anyway.

What is SATA port 0-3 native / legacy mode stands for, which one is better to use?

Thanks for your help!!

Starting from backwards......with thanks to Peter for this next paragraph!.........Legacy IDE mode means just that - the SATA port presents itself like a legacy ISA bus IDE port, I/O at 1F0h, IRQ14 (170h, IRQ15 for secondary), and the OS can run it just like any legacy HDD controller has been working ever since 1984. You cannot have more than two such controllers. The main point is that this mode runs on generic drivers, even on drivers from 20 years ago.

"Native" mode means PCI style, with plug-and-play assigned resources and a shareable PCI interrupt. You can have as many of those as you please, and only this mode lets you have non-legacy features like command queuing, hot-plugged drives, etc......."GO NATIVE"

Now with the Marvell.....if you have to go digging through 3 or 4 layers to get to this screen .....is it a big problem......or a niggle

Oh well ... lets have a crack at it anyway..........have you tried to just un- install it and let windows do it thing to reinstall?

If you get the "windows is unable to bla,bla,bla........what I do when feeling lazy is down load and unpack all the drivers to a folder on the desk top.....click on the update drivers tab...... choose the (lower option) manual install of drivers and point it to the folder on the desk top.

From memory you may have to install the Marvell console driver.........and Raid utility to get rid of the ATA Device error.......if you hate the desktop icon ....you can alway drop it off the desk.

Just one quick question...If i use remove-device panel daemon only for USB, and never remove hard-drives on fly, can i somehow make this sign show only when some usb / mobile device inserted?

Hi

I think this is what you are talking about when a non removeable device shows up as a removeable one in the system tray ? If so this is how to fix it.

Right Click the command prompt and select 'Run as Administrator';

Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt:
reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci\Controller(n)\Channel(N)" /f /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

Change (n) for the contoller number – 0 on my machine ie. 'Controller0' and change Channel (N) for the SATA port number – 1 – 5 on my machine ie. Channel1, Channel2, channel3....etc

You can check which controller number and port(s) by using regedit to check the registry keys. The keys can also be be added while your there.

reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci\Controller0\Channel1" /f /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
