P67A-UD3-B3 fully populated memory slots. Can I expect any problems?

Guys,

I've just splashed out my birthday money on a further two 4GB sticks of Corsair memory, taking the beast up to 16GB.

I've read that some motherboards need a little voltage tweak if all the memory slots are in use. Does anyone know if I'll need to do this with my P67A-UD3-B3?

Hi Paul

The first thing that you may find is that although you have purchased the same make and model of modules that they might still not work together. Ideally a full kit is used to fill the slots.

You might find that they will work fine together and will even perform ok when all the slots are filled. It is one of those times when only trying will tell. Sometimes you will need to make a few adjustments in the BIOS to get them to play happily together. Generally it is the QPI/Vtt that needs tweaking and the dram voltage may need increasing also. The memroy controller voltage which is toied in with the CPU may also need a touch more.

I carefully purchased an identical kit. The very same part number, timings etc.

I'll print off your reply and have a sniff around the BIOS before the arrive so that I'm familiar with it.

You are welcome Paul and I think you misunderstood me a little about the memory kit. When you purchase a matched kit they are not only the same make and model(timings, voltage etc) but electronically the same. They are actually tested to make sure they react exactly the same. That is what differentiates between two dual kits and a four module kit.

Certainly looking more powerful now. The RAMdrive can make a huge difference if done correctly. You should see what numbers Aussie Allan has been getting out of his recently!!

As a matter of interest what number did you get for the processor on yours in WEI ? I only ask because I get full score of 7.9 on everything now but my CPU which is 7.6 or 7.7  I think and that is a i5 2500K overclocked to 4.3Ghz.

You'll notice I'm not overclocking the CPU yet. Not got around to it.

I intend to use the ramdrive for gaming mostly, ArmA2 Arrowhead wants it data from storage really quickly, so this seemed the best way to go.

I reckon that your WEI scores (for what they are worth) are pretty good. Your SSD index is not bad really for a SATA2 drive. I have seen worse scores with some SATA3 drives. I think my processor score is the same as yours and as a matter of interest it didn't move much, about 1 or maybe 2, when I overclocked it from 3.3 to 4.3Ghz. Just goes to prove once again how flaky the WEI is.

I will be interested in how you get on with the RAMdrive.
