GA-X58A-UD3R fits 10.5" GPU Cards?
« on: September 14, 2011, 07:24:53 am »
Motherboard: GA-X58A-UD3R
GPU: EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-TR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi)

Hi, first off I want to say this is an awesome motherboard and I've had no complaints since I bought it last year. My issue is, I just upgraded my GPU and I can't seem to make it fit as the SATA connectors don't allow my card to sit flush against the PCI Express x16 slot.

I do not have multiple cards. The card's is 10.5" in length. My old card was an EVGA 9800GT +. I have researched this as best as I could but no one else seems to have this issue. Google results have directed me to various forums that have users who advertise having my exact mobo and similar 10.5" cards. I would love to use this card as well as this mobo. Thank you for any and all assistance.

Edit: I also want to point out I am a newbie at this sort of thing and this rig is the first I've ever built myself. I do apologize if this is a stupid question.

Hi and welcome.

The graphics card  should fit in the PCIEx16_1 slot with no problem. Are you sure that you are trying the correct slot ?

Can you see what it is fouling against ?

Is it the back plate that is causing the problem ? Have you removed the screw and blanking plate on both slots ?

its the length of his graphics card thats too long
i had that problem on a previous motherboard
i had to replace my sate cables with folded(cornered) connectors i dont know the right name for it
after that i was able to fit in the card but just barely

Oh I see. You are saying that the card is fouling on the SATA cables and you used a right angled connector end to get past it. That should work fine  but  have no problems at all with mine and they are the standard straight versions. I have a 6970 installed which is way longer than the edge of the motherboard and covers all the SATA ports completely.

Dark Mantis and Stexred, you guys are awesome. I was afraid someone would tell me my card wasn't compatible with this mobo, but when you guys mentioned it was possible with similar large cards, I went back in with a clear head and figured out the problem. The slots on the back of my tower where the card is supposed to fit was slightly bent, making the card tip slightly over on the sata connectors in a way that made it look like they were blocking the card from going in. Took a screwdriver and bent it back into shape and it works great! The sata connectors themselves are covered slightly, but are unused so it's okay.

Now it's a matter of plugging everything back in. I also upgraded my psu to a modular corsair and noticed some red lights on the mobo indicating overclocking (near the ram slots) so if that causes problems I know where to ask (here).

Seriously, if there was a way to buy you guys beers through the internet, I totally would! Thank you again!

Well I am just happy that it all worked out for you in the end there and the lights on the motherboard should all illuminate when going through POST but then go out afterwards if everything is running perfectly.

Never mind the virtual beers we will settle for karma instead! ;D
