Overclocking advice needed on new build.

Overclocking advice needed on new build.
« on: September 17, 2011, 11:32:09 am »
After extensive trolling of this forum, I completed my new build with some overclocking.

GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 LGA 1155
G.SKILL Ripjaws X + Turbulence II Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2200 (PC3 17600)
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz
******* Professional Series Gold AX1200 PSU
OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 series RVD3X2-
Crucial Real 300
Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0
PLEXTOR Black 12X BD-R SATA Blu-ray Disc Burner PX-B940SA-11
2 x EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
Watercooled CPU with Swiftech Apogee XT (Rev 2) High Performance CPU Waterblock
******* AX1200 Gold PSU
Thermaltake Level 10 GT (snow)

I have had no problems with memory, ran memtest Overnite with no issues.
Overclocked the CPU to 4.7 MHz and ran prime (four hours) as well as LinX (50 rounds) with no issues.
CPU temperatures maxed out at 62°C during prime with Vcore at 1.3+ volts.

Here is where it gets interesting. If I increase the CPU to 48 MHz, the PC will not boot completely, but recycles through the boot process. I have increased the Vcore to 1.45 volts to no effect. Clearly temperature is not an issue, memory seems fine, any suggestions?

 Turn off all C states except BI DIRECTIONAL PROCHOT and what DM said about Turbo ... also take a pad and paper to write down the BSOD codes when you get them......it'll be something like 0x000000124 or 0x000000xx.....these are a gold mine to get that extra few% out of your clock

  Just a small sample of the information available to you with BSOD codes.....

   BSOD codes:
BSOD codes for overclocking
0x101 = increase vcore
0x124 = increase/decrease vcore or QPI/VTT...have to test to see which one it is
0x0A = unstable RAM/IMC, increase QPI first, if that doesn't work increase vcore
0x1E = increase vcore
0x3B = increase vcore
0x3D = increase vcore
0xD1 = QPI/VTT, increase/decrease as necessary
0x9C = QPI/VTT most likely, but increasing vcore has helped in some instances
0x50 = RAM timings/Frequency or uncore multi unstable, increase RAM voltage or adjust QPI/VTT, or lower uncore if you're higher than 2x
0x109 = Not enough or too Much memory voltage
0x116 = Low IOH (NB) voltage, GPU issue (most common when running multi-GPU/overclocking GPU)

  This was taken off an excellent tutorial .... here! ....http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/538439-guide-overclocking-core-i7-920-930-a.html

  NOTE! The above link and advise is for the i7-920/30/50 and 60.....do not take at face value for the 2500 and 2600......additional research is advised.....they are just supplied as a guide line as  BSOD codes should be relevant for the i7 architecture

  ENJOY!
