P55M-UD2 with Core I-5 750 startup problem
« on: September 11, 2009, 06:20:31 am »
Just had my new Core I-5 with Gigabyte P55M-UD2 board delivered from Newegg. I also purchased Crucial ddr3 ram and a Corsair vx450 powersupply for an Antec Super Lanboy case. The fans start and then the system goes down after a few seconds it restarts and tries again. It would continue indefinitely and never gets to POST. I tried another power supply and the problem persists. I removed the board from the case and still have the same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't have another processor to try. I also tried each stick of ram individually with the same result. Thanks in advance.

Hi

Clear CMOS (disconnect power cord from PSU then short pins of CLR_CMOS for a few seconds).
Try with just 1 RAM stick and put it in DDR3_1.
When 2 RAM sticks use DDR3_1 and DDR3_3.

Are CPU_FAN and ATX_12V_2X4 connected properly ?
Any beeps from speaker connected to F_PANEL?
What is exact model of your Crucial RAM and how many sticks you have?
ZX-S & C64 are still my favourites ;-)

Thanks for your reply. I tried your suggestions -- No joy! With ram and video I get no beeps. If I pull the video card I get continuous long beeps for missing video. As soon as I install ram the system goes into continuous restart with no beep codes. I have the Crucial 4GB kit with 2-2GB 240 - pim DIMM 256Mx64 DDR3PC3 - 10600 unbuff.

Hi

A brief test with Crucial memory was done in our lab and test result was OK.

The following configuration was tested:
Model: P55M-UD2 (1.0)
BIOS: The latest bios F3
RAM: Crucial 2GB 2RX8 PC3-10600U-9-10-B0 x 2pcs inserted in white slots
CPU: Core I5 750

Try to check with other memory, maybe this list will be helpful somehow:

There are several users with this MB who seem to be having the same problem. I checked with Crucial and they recommend their same memory for this MB and you have tested it in your lab. This would indicate that ram is not the problem. I have tried my new Corsair vx450 PS with my AMD Opteron 939 system and it runs fine. So the PS doesn't seem to be the problem. This leaves the CPU or the MB. I am considering RMA to return this MB to Newegg. If I get an exchange, there won't be any restocking fee. There are several users on the ARSTechnica forum with the same issue.

Yes you tested it. But did you test it with Auto settings for the High Voltage memory. Initial 965 chipset boards had similar problems.

They were tested also.

Be interesting to know what default voltage is in BIOS?

I am having exact same issue.  I have very similar spec as gprice (i5 and crucial memory CT2KIT25664BA1339 and thermaltake 430W PSU).  When powered up CPU fan spins all phase LEDs turn on but turns off automatically within few sec.  Then turns on by itself few seconds later.  Removing memories causes beeps to happen.  Tried all banks with one memory and still have the same issue.  Tried different PSU (2U server 510W PSU) and it shows same symptom, I know that PSU works fine with dual AMD 265 opterons.

Any clues??

After some web search I've found below sites with same issue.  Most of them are using Crucial memory.  Two of those forums suggest RAM setting (1.5v?) is not supported by GA board.  Hardocp form confirms that the failing board works with Corsair memory.

runn3r, have you guys tried this crucial memory on new boards? (without having other RAM to set the proper memory settings?) I have a feeling that this memory should not be on the QVL list.  Let me know what I can do to get this board going.

Corsair memory works.  Below is the memory I used.

I am installing a new GA-P55-UD5 motherboard and it will not boot up properly.
I have a Zalman ZM750-HP power supply connected to this motherboard.

When power is applied, the blue power switch LED lights up, as does the red led for the s4/s5 power state.

On pressing the power button, the cpu fan starts, the s4/s5 led goes out, the leds for all the 6 power phases light, as does the blue led for the cpu and the group of 4 leds near the memory. Then the power cycles on and off every few seconds as the system tries and fails to boot properly.
NB: I can even remove the two CORSAIR TW3X4G1333C9A (4Gx2) DDR3 simms from memory sockets 1 & 3 and I still get the same pattern of LEDs.

As I can remove the memory and I get the same result,  presumably it is unrelated to thechoice of  memory?

Can anyone help me diagnose the problem?

I don't have same board as you do, but when I removed all memories from my board, it made very rapid beep sounds.  Try hooking your case speaker up and see if you get this.  If you don't get anything like this then maybe your board is bad?  I see that your memory is on Corsair's I5 support list but not on gigabyte's.

Problem solved!

I replaced the Crucial memory with the Corsair memory that was recommended here and the problem is now solved! It is sad that both oth Crucial and Gigabyte recommended and approved the Crucial memory for the UD2 board. I had to eat the RMA re3stocking fee at NewEgg (15%). I also overpaid for my Corsair ram -- $109 at Frys. If I had problems I could return in 15days without a restocking fee. Thanks all for your help. The system is now everything I had expected.
