Motherboard X58A-OC Failing to Recognize all of 3TB Hard Drive on Win 7 install

I recently purchased a Gigabyte x58A-OC Motherboard REV 1.0. I just built a pretty hefty gaming rig and when I finally went to install the 3TB Hard drive using WIN 7 Ultimate 64 bit the installation would only recognize 2 TB of the Drive and would continue to dismiss 900 GB of the remainder. I installed the OS and sure enough it's showing I have 1.99 TB of my drive with a 100MB system partition and 900GB unaccounted for.

I read a few internet blogs about how this was an issue on "older" BIOS versions of some motherboards failing to recognize anything past 2.2TB of Hard Drives as the 3TB are a recent addition. I thought it might be a WIN 7 error but it looks like it's the BIOS and  I'm unsure how to correct this and I was unable to discover an update for the BIOS ( I don't think there is one yet though Gigabyte does currently have a BETA BIOS flash out).

Has anyone else had this issue or know how to resolve it?

  Yup!

  Nothing to do with Gigabyte but Widows own NTFS filing system.....will only support up to 1.99999999999TB.......for 2 TB and above GDP filing system must be used on the onset Format process prior to OS install......Back to the drawing board 99 ..............it should be covered in the manual that came with the expensive Frisbee.

As Allan says you will need to format it as GPT instead of NTFS.

I appreciate the responses, So now how do i go about re-formatting the drive to GPT
