GA-EX58-UD3R & AHCI help.

Originally set up my EX58 in IDE mode. After doing 3 Registry tweaks reset Bios to AHCI via Onboard/SATA/IDE/Control Mode. Drives appear to be in AHCI mode & slightly faster.

What I missed was ICH SATA Control Mode, still set to IDE. When I changed this to AHCI & rebooted some drivers were added but Mouse blue circle
just revolves & appears as though looking for another driver. Do I need the ICH setting for full AHCI mode, am running from PCIe card. Had to reset
the ICH back to IDE for now. Have 3 drives programmed so don't want to start afresh.

Any advice appreciated.

I think this is the crux of the matter here. The fact is you are trying to load drivers for the Intel chipset but actually have the drive running off an add on card. I suspect that they are looking for the drive but getting confused as it can't be found there.

  For all the problems we see......I wish IDE was taken out of the English Dictionary........or a reference stating......."IDE"....turn to page 789 and see ACHI"

  If more people did not know about the ACHI reg hack.......more people might load ACHI in the first place ..........

Thanks for the replies DM & Allan, will have to swop drive to SATA 2 & recheck. What is the difference
between the 2 Bios settings, that would be handy to know. Looks like GByte is loading to AHCI on post
without ICH being altered.

@DM, you mentioned in earlier post set to NCQ but can't find any reference in Bios ?

Just about to try & install LSI 6gb/s card !!! Did wonder if possible to hook up a small SSD for cache
or Ramdisk.

Allan ios the ramdisk king. I expect he has something to say on that front.

The NCQ is in certain BIOS versions but doesn't seem to appear in others for some reason. Have you checked since enabling AHCI ?

Thanks for the reply DM will take a look. Am very tempted to scrap AHCI mode, the GByte bios takes a long time to load on boot in AHCI mode.
Also getting errors in device manager on port 0 & 1 when single connection used as no drivers installed. Tried swopping connection to see
if drivers would install. May be required to set bios before OS install as in a sense is in semi raid mode ie 2x0 & 2x1 ports shown each single
port has driver. The change started when I added the ICH/AHCI mode. With an old ShuttleXPC change to AHCI & no different in boot up time.

The LSI SAS 9211-4 has turned out to be another disaster !!! Works with standard HDD, slightly better performance on SATA 2 but not 3.
Won't work with SSD. Tried a fresh install but SSD, seen in LSI bios, is not seen by OS & though it picks up drivers name can't install. Tried
workaround of booting in SATA 2, adding drivers then switching to LSI card which works with standard HDD. The firmware is out of date
& update package has a mass of files & useless information. A phone call to LSI was a waste of time, after he asked a lot of needless questions
like serial No the answer was SSD incompatible !!! So leaving to supplier to sort or return as performance is mediocre & no better than rubbish
