Not necessarilly as you would need to install it onto the motherboard, supply the required power to it, load the special driver package, enable it in the BIOS etc. etc. I take it that was what you were asking about.
The best way to remove the battery if you can't manage it with your fingers only is to use a small slot screwdriver to push back the retaining clip and then the battery should more or less spring out. Make sure that the machine is powered down first!
