z68 UD3H-B3 PCIe Problem HELP

Hey all - I have the mobo stated above (z68 UD3H-B3) and I can't get my aftermarket GPU (EVGA GTX 580) to work.

The onboard graphics work perfectly fine, but even when I go into BIOs and change initial graphic feature to PCIex16 and switch the Onboard to "Enable only if GPU doesn't exist" My 580 will not turn on.

I'm hoping the card is not DOA and I am missing something in the bios or installation CD. PLEASE HELP!

Hi and welcome.

You would need to give us some idea of your hardware to get a realistic idea of the problem. Have you made sure that the extra power cables are inserted into the graphics card ?

Yes I have the power plugs in, 1 6 pin and 1 8 bin. I went into the BIOs and made it so the biso should read the PCIex16 and also set it to Enable GPU instead of onboard.

The fan on the GPU spins so I know its getting power.

i7 2600k, 16gb ddr3 1866 g skill sniper, evga gtx 580, windows 7, crucial m42 256gb ssd, thermaltake level 10 gt....need anything else? everything works great just not gfx card

I was hoping that you would include the PSU. What make and model do you have and how old is it ?

It's a Raidmax 1200w SLi Certified. (Only one on Newegg)

The last thing I can think of is to to try is to clear the CMOS.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.
 
Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.
 
You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

If that doesn't work the rest of your system seems to be ballanced and powerful enough so I can't see any obvious problem there. I am afraid it does look like a duff card. I think you are going to have to arrange a RMA with your retailer.

Few things...whats the best way to remove the battery?

And shouldnt my aftermarket gpu work as soon as i plug the monitor cable into it?:O

Not necessarilly as you would need to install it onto the motherboard, supply the required power to it, load the special driver package, enable it in the BIOS etc. etc. I take it that was what you were asking about.

The best way to remove the battery if you can't manage it with your fingers only is to use a small slot screwdriver to push back the retaining clip and then the battery should more or less spring out. Make sure that the machine is powered down first!
