GA-EX58-UD5 Win7 64bit and Raid0 problems
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:01:08 am »
Hi guys,

Just spent about 4 hours trying to find a solution to my problem.

I have a GA-EX58-UD5 mb, with Intel i7 processor
3 x 2GB DDR3 memory modules
2 x WD3000 SATA HDD's.

I used to have a single HDD and win7 was working fine. I purchased a second one trying to get RAID0 to work.

I have setup the 'defaults' in the BIOS (F7) and have created a RAID0 stripe (drives are identical models). All that works fine.

When I try to install win7 (RTM - I'm a programmer), it does not recognise the drives. I've 'browsed' and selected the 'Intel ICH8R/9R/10R DO SATA Raid Controller (c:\f6flpy64\iaStor.inf)' driver, but no luck.

I've also tried the 'Gigabyte GBB36X Controller (\gsata\w7\?Floppy64\xraid_f.inf)' driver, but still it doesn't recognise the drives.

Has anybody got win7 64bit RTM working with Raid 0 on this motherboard?

I had no trouble installing Win 7 RTM, but I did turn off the JMicron controller (The GSATA 4 port one), because it's useless. I am using BIOS F8 (no longer available, see other post be me), so I would suggest you use F9E BIOS, there is updated BIOS RAID code for the ICH10R from F8 onwards. I'm currelntly running the Vertex as C: with the Operating System on it, D: drive of 500GB RAID1 for Documents and Data and E: drive of 500GB RAID1 as a scratch area. The DVD writer drive takes up the final 6th port on the ICR10R. The driver version I'm using for the ICR10R is 8.9.0.1023.

I had previously installed the Win 7 beta onto the 4 x 500GB disks running as RAID10 without any problems. The Vertex certainly makes the system much faster!

thanks guys, I'll give it a shot (later bios).

Just a bit of an update. Last night I thought I'd roll back to the older version to see what would happen.

Well, 7000 worked fine without any drivers (and no changes to bios settings)
7100 alo worked fine without any drivers (and no changes to bios)

So, I had a working 7100 Raid 0 config...

I then rebooted with RTM in the DVD drive, it loaded setup, but then couldn't see the raid !!!!

Obviously something has changed with the drivers between the two releases...

Any idea where the raid drivers are on a win7 install disk?
On the 7100 build, controller is listed as Intel ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller

Tried the BIOS upgrade, stil no luck, so hopefully the intel stuff has some help.

this is even worse than I thought.

I can't even get RTM 64bit to load on a single drive!

I've changed the BIOS to IDE for

ICH SATA Control Mode   and
Onbaord SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode

I've even tried to reburn the win7 DVD on the slowest drive setting (suggested by other) - and surprisingly, that makes no difference..

All the time however, what ever way I setup the BIOS for version 7100 (raid, IDE, ACHI), it works fine!

So, does anybody have any more suggestions on what would work just to get it to work on one drive?

just another (yep, another!) update.

I can't even get win7 RTM to install on an old SATA drive I have!

I've tried plugging it in to the SATA2_0 slots, or the GSATA slots, no difference (the other drives are now unplugged).

I would blame the motherboard about now, but version 7000 and 7100 work fine, even with ACHI on/off, raid 0 on/off...

I'm just download the disk image again (I'm a mirosoft partner, so this if official software) do see what happens. I might give the 32bit version a go and see what happens).

ok, latest update.

To say I'm confused is an understatement!

I redownloaded the ISO image from microsoft (https://www.microsoft.com/msppdd/Catalog/ComponentDownload.aspx?xxxx) and reburnt the image.

I plugged the 2 SATA drives back in to SATA2_0 /1 and recreated a new RAID0 volume.

(actually, prior to this, I moved the DVD drive on to the GSATA ports just in case that was part of the problem, but on my old brun DVD it didn't seem to make a difference).

Then put the new DVD in the drive, rebooted and all worked fine!

Not sure what your problem would be, have windows 7x64 ultimate running on two 1Tb Samsung F1s with Bios  7.  Also have a second Raid 0 with 3 seagate 750Gbs on the same system.
